According to the Vietnam National Tourism Administration, in the past eight months, Vietnam welcomed 13.9 million international visitors, an increase of 21.7% compared to the same period last year. Notably, just two key markets, China and South Korea, contributed over 6 million visitors to Vietnam's tourism industry, nearly half of the total.
Specifically, China continues to be Vietnam's largest source market for tourists with over 3.5 million arrivals (accounting for 25.4%), an increase of 44%; South Korea ranks second with over 2.9 million arrivals (accounting for 20.9%), far ahead of Thailand.

Vietnam's tourism industry is growing amidst a decline in its regional competitor, Thailand. In the first eight months of 2025, Thailand welcomed 21.88 million international visitors, a 7% decrease compared to the same period last year; in August alone, visitor numbers fell by over 12%. China led with 3.09 million visitors, a decrease of approximately 30%, and significantly lower than Vietnam's 3.5 million. Furthermore, South Korean visitors to Thailand were also lower than Vietnam's, at 1 million compared to 2.9 million. These two traditional markets for Thai tourism consistently rank among the top 10 largest source markets (China, Malaysia, India, Russia, South Korea, Japan, the UK, the US, Taiwan, and Laos, respectively).
Meanwhile, besides China and South Korea, the top 10 largest international tourist markets for Vietnam are Taiwan, the United States, Japan, Cambodia, India, Russia, Australia, and Malaysia.
All tourist markets showed growth compared to the same period last year, with Russian tourists continuing their rapid growth at 164.9%, as well as the Philippines at 93.4%, and Cambodia at 50.7%...
Vietnam's tourism sector has recently recorded consistently positive figures. For example, the number of visitors in August increased by 7.8% compared to the previous month. Despite still being in the low season for international tourism, the positive growth results in July and August show promising signs for the inbound tourism market, according to the National Tourism Administration. Recently, the government issued a resolution expanding visa exemptions to 12 more European countries, creating good opportunities to attract tourists from this region.
