Beyond preserving and promoting the value of local heritage and cultural identity, the revival of historical sites also opens up new cultural spaces, contributing to traditional education , tourism development, and creating momentum for Dong Nai city on its journey of development.

Restoring and preserving many historical sites.

For many years, the site of the founding of the Indochinese Communist Party branch in Phu Rieng (Thuan Loi commune) has been considered a "red address" associated with the revolutionary struggle of rubber workers against French colonialism. Over time, due to the impact of natural conditions, some parts of the site have deteriorated. Specifically, the surface of the structures has faded, the paint has peeled off, and moss has grown. The flooring, walkways, landscape, and supporting technical infrastructure have not been comprehensively invested in and renovated; the exhibition space for documents and artifacts lacks uniformity. The existing area is also small...

Given the above situation, Thuan Loi commune submitted a report and proposal for investment in the Phu Rieng Do Historical Site Project. On February 26th, Le Truong Son, Member of the Provincial Party Standing Committee and Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee (now Member of the City Party Standing Committee and Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee), along with relevant departments and agencies, held a working session with Thuan Loi commune. The Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee assigned the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism (CST) to take the lead and coordinate with the commune's People's Committee and relevant agencies and units to seek opinions from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and experts regarding the implementation of the Phu Rieng Do Historical Site Project. Specifically, the planning and design should include provisions to retain some land for rubber tree cultivation, and the square must have a capacity of approximately 1,000 people…

The project to expand, renovate, and beautify the Nguyen Huu Canh Temple in Tran Bien Ward is being implemented with the expectation of creating a cultural and historical landmark in the heart of the city. The project, managed by the City's Investment and Construction Project Management Board, covers an area of over 10,300 square meters. Many project packages have been completed or are nearing completion, contributing to the preservation and promotion of heritage values and demonstrating gratitude for the contributions of our ancestors in the formation and development of Dong Nai province.

Most recently, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Hoang Dao Cuong issued Document No. 2210/BVHTTDL-DSVH providing feedback on the revised content of the exhibition at Tan Hiep Prison Relic, Tam Hiep Ward. To ensure the quality of the exhibition content, during the implementation process, the Ministry requests the People's Committee of Dong Nai City to direct relevant agencies to inspect and review the implementation content, especially for key exhibition items, ensuring historical accuracy, aesthetic value, and suitability to the space, characteristics, and value of the relic.

Furthermore, the explanatory content should be refined, ensuring logical coherence between themes and sub-themes, and that the titles of chapters and sections are scientific and consistent; the content of explanations and annotations should be enhanced to clarify the historical and cultural value of artifacts, documents, and significant events. Technical and artistic solutions, as well as the application of science and technology in exhibitions, should be reviewed and improved to ensure they are appropriate to the nature of the historical site; the materials and colors used in restoration and exhibition items should harmonize with the site's space and not affect the original elements that constitute the site's value…

Not only historical sites, but many scenic spots in Dong Nai are also receiving attention and investment for restoration. Among them, the People's Committee of Tho Son commune has proposed the restoration and preservation of Elephant Waterfall, aiming to protect and promote the value of the historical site and exploit its potential for ecotourism.

Managing, protecting, and promoting the value of heritage.

According to Nguyen Ngoc Yen, Director of the Dong Nai Museum: The management, protection, and restoration of historical relics in the city have been consistently and comprehensively implemented by all levels and sectors. Units directly managing the relics regularly carry out preservation measures to prevent the impact of natural disasters, fires, termites, and other damaging factors.

Several historical sites, such as the Nguyen Huu Canh Temple (temple section) and the Tran Bien Confucian Temple, have been restored, renovated, and put into effective operation. The Bien Hoa Citadel is currently being studied for renovation plans, incorporating a public square. Recently, the Dong Nai City People's Committee signed a decision approving the economic-technical report for the Investment Project to construct a traditional monument for the Dong Nai armed forces in Tri An ward and the Investment Project to restore and renovate Phu My communal house in Nhon Trach ward.

Currently, the management of historical relics in Dong Nai City is carried out according to Decision No. 2/2026/QD-UBND, dated January 13, 2026, on the promulgation of regulations on the decentralization of management, protection, and promotion of the value of historical relics. This decentralization has created a clear mechanism for responsibilities among sectors and localities, contributing to increased proactiveness in the management, preservation, and proposal of restoration work when signs of deterioration appear.

Beyond preservation, local authorities and management units are also promoting the value of heritage sites through various programs such as tours, traditional education, festivals, and community cultural activities. This transforms these sites into living cultural spaces, fostering community cohesion and contributing to the development of tourism in Dong Nai city in the new era.
