Apple officially releases iOS 17.1

According to The Verge , the latest feature Apple added to iOS 17.1 is the ability to continue AirDrop transmission over cellular data if the two connected devices move out of Wi-Fi range after the sending process has begun. This feature was first announced by Apple at the WWDC 2023 developer conference in June, but it didn't arrive in time for the official release of iOS 17 last month.

iOS 17.1 has been officially released for iPhone Xs series and later models.

The iOS 17.1 update also brings several other tweaks and additions. First is the new Love feature for Apple Music, which allows users to add songs, albums, playlists, and artists to their library, and signals their musical preferences to the app's recommendation algorithm. The settings menu for the Standby feature has been adjusted to give users more control when the phone screen is off in this smart display mode.

Several region-specific additions to iOS 17.1 have also been rolled out. Customers in the UK can now view their bank balances in the Apple Wallet app for supported accounts thanks to integration with the country's open banking API. iOS 17.1 is also designed to address issues related to violations of iPhone 12 radiation exposure limits in France.

Other improvements include expanding the availability of the flashlight indicator in Dynamic Island, where the icon was previously only available on the iPhone 15 Pro but will now be available on all iPhones with Dynamic Island.

To download and install iOS 17.1, users should go to Settings > General > Software Update and follow the instructions. iOS software updates are often not available to everyone immediately, so users may have to wait before they can download them. An iOS 17.1 notification icon will appear in the Settings app when the update is available.
