How much iPhone storage does Apple Intelligence take up?

According to Apple's support document, Apple Intelligence is available on iPhone 15 Pro, 15 Pro Max, iPhone 16 models, and iPad and Mac devices running the M1 chip or later. For iPhones in particular, this personal intelligence system requires at least 4 GB of free memory to operate.

Apple said this is not the storage capacity in the installation package of the iOS 18.1 update, but the free space required to use Apple Intelligence, which means that in subsequent versions, the storage requirements could increase significantly.

However, with the increasing demand for memory capacity, iPhone models with 128 GB capacity may have difficulty optimizing memory if they have stored a lot of data, especially for users who often take photos, record videos and install many applications.

Apple has also predicted that in the future, as Apple Intelligence is upgraded and more features are added, the need for free space will likely continue to increase. This could make low-capacity iPhone models like 128 GB less attractive, and push Apple to equip its devices with a base storage capacity of 256 GB or more, similar to the strategy that Samsung has adopted.

Experts from Gadgets360 say that while this high memory requirement may not pose too much of a problem for high-end iPhone models with large capacities, for users of older iPhone models or low-capacity versions, this could lead to a shortage of storage space, forcing them to consider upgrading their devices or deleting personal data.
