In 2017, to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the iPhone's launch, Apple surprised everyone by skipping the iPhone 9 name and introducing the iPhone X instead. Now, according to Bloomberg, Apple may repeat a similar strategy in 2027.
Specifically, instead of releasing the iPhone 19 series using the traditional naming convention, the company is reportedly going straight to iPhone 20 to mark the 20th anniversary of the first iPhone's launch.

It's unclear whether Apple will use the name iPhone 20 or iPhone XX, but many sources suggest the company is preparing a major overhaul for the product that generates more than half of its annual revenue.
The iPhone 20 features a completely new design with a curved glass display.
According to leaked information, the iPhone 20 Pro and iPhone 20 Pro Max will have a significantly different design compared to the current generations.
The display is said to use curved glass around the edges, creating a more seamless feel. Apple is also aiming to completely eliminate screen notches by placing the Face ID sensor and front camera beneath the display glass.
If this plan comes to fruition, Dynamic Island will disappear, giving way to a seamless display with no punch holes or notches.
The new models are said to bear the internal codenames V73 and V74, and will use the A21 chip manufactured on an advanced 2nm process.
Siri AI will require more powerful hardware.
Another notable change is that Apple is reportedly equipping all iPhones launching in 2027 with 12GB of RAM to fully support Siri's artificial intelligence features.
Previously, Apple planned to introduce Siri AI alongside the official release of iOS 27. The new generation virtual assistant is expected to deliver a more natural conversational experience and the ability to handle complex requests, similar to current AI platforms.
In addition to the Pro models, Apple may also release a standard iPhone 18 with a 6.3-inch screen, a lower-priced iPhone 18e with a 6.1-inch screen, and the next generation of the ultra-slim iPhone Air line.
The ambition to create a unibody glass iPhone.
According to Bloomberg, Apple is researching a unibody glass design for the 20 iPhone series.

In addition to eliminating screen notches, the company also aims to completely replace physical buttons with capacitive touch areas integrated into the device's body. These touch areas are designed to remain active even when the battery is dead.
If successful, the iPhone 20 could become a nearly perfect, seamless block of glass, realizing a design concept that has been pursued by renowned designer Jony Ive for many years.
Apple's longer-term plans
Not stopping at 2027, Apple is also reportedly preparing for the A22 chip generation, which will appear in iPhone models in 2028. This chip is expected to be manufactured primarily by the semiconductor company TSMC (Taiwan) using a 1.4 nm process.
Some sources also indicate that Apple is considering the possibility of partnering with Intel to manufacture some of the processors for future generations of iPhones.
Although all of the above information remains at the rumor stage and has not been officially confirmed by Apple, if it becomes a reality, the iPhone 20 series could be one of the biggest overhauls in the nearly two decades of development of this iconic phone.
