Northern and Central regions are scorching hot
On the morning of June 2, Mr. Nguyen Van Huong, Head of Weather Forecast Department, National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, said that today, the Northern Delta and midland areas, North Central region will have severe heat, some places will be especially severe with the highest temperature commonly 37 - 39 degrees Celsius, some places over 40 degrees Celsius; the lowest relative humidity commonly 40 - 45%.
Other places in the North, Central and South Central regions will have hot weather, some places will have severe heat with the highest temperature commonly ranging from 35 - 37 degrees Celsius, some places above 38 degrees Celsius; the lowest relative humidity commonly ranges from 45-50%.
Forecast for June 3, the North will end the heat wave; the Central and South Central regions will continue to have heat waves, some places will have severe heat waves with the highest temperature commonly ranging from 35 - 37 degrees Celsius, some places over 38 degrees Celsius; the North Central region will have localized heat waves with the highest temperature in some places over 35 degrees Celsius. The lowest relative humidity is commonly 50 - 55%.
The meteorological agency warns that due to the effects of heat combined with low humidity, there is a high risk of explosions and fires in residential areas due to increased demand for electricity and the risk of forest fires. In addition, heat can also cause dehydration, exhaustion, and heat stroke in the human body when exposed to high temperatures for a long time.
Meteorological experts also note that the predicted temperature in the heat bulletins and the actual temperature felt outdoors can differ by 2-4 degrees Celsius, or even higher depending on the conditions of the surface such as concrete and asphalt.
Northern region to experience thunderstorms from the night of June 2
Also according to Mr. Nguyen Van Huong, currently, the low pressure trough with its axis at about 24 - 26 degrees North latitude is compressed and pushed south by the continental high pressure in the North.
From the evening and night of June 2, in the Northern region, there will be showers and thunderstorms, locally heavy rain with rainfall of 20 - 40 mm, locally over 70 mm; in mountainous and midland areas, there will be local very heavy rain of over 150 mm. Warning of the risk of heavy rain over 100 mm in 3 hours. During thunderstorms, there is a possibility of tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong gusts of wind.
In response to the above weather developments, Mr. Nguyen Huu Thanh warned that thunderstorms, tornadoes, lightning, and strong gusts of wind pose a potential risk to people's lives and property. Tornadoes often occur with strong thunderstorms. Heavy rain can cause flooding in low-lying roads, urban areas, etc. When there are warnings of thunderstorms, people should take shelter in safe places in solidly built structures.
To proactively respond, authorities and people in affected areas need to regularly monitor forecast and warning information on the website of the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting at nchmf.gov.vn, provincial, municipal and regional Hydro-Meteorological Stations, and regularly update the latest hydro-meteorological forecast information on the official mass media of the Central and local levels.
