[Image] Sea turtle midwives

For nearly 30 years, Con Dao National Park (Ho Chi Minh City) has been the first place in Vietnam to successfully and effectively implement a sea turtle conservation and rescue program. This work has made a very important contribution to the national and regional biodiversity action strategy.

Every year, from June to October, approximately 400 mother turtles come ashore to nest and lay eggs on the sandy beaches of Con Dao National Park. More than 150,000 hatchlings have been born and released into the sea, with a hatching success rate of up to 87%. During peak season, some beaches on Bay Canh Island and Tre Lon Island see 10-20 mother turtles nesting each night.
