The lessons on leadership principles from General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong have helped many localities strive to improve and build their homeland into an increasingly prosperous and beautiful place.

Bearing in mind the General Secretary's instructions, the Party committees, governments, and people of many localities have always strived to build their homeland into an increasingly prosperous and beautiful place.
Caring for fishermen who make a living at sea.
Recalling the memories and advice of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, Mr. Phan Khanh Lam, former Secretary of the Party Committee of Tinh Ky commune, Quang Ngai city (formerly part of Son Tinh district, Quang Ngai province), said that in 2012, when the General Secretary visited and extended New Year greetings, the officials and people of Tinh Ky were all very happy and excited.
At that time, in his capacity as Secretary of the Party Committee of the commune, he had the opportunity to accompany the General Secretary on a field trip. The General Secretary was very simple, approachable, and listened attentively to the local authorities' reports on the socio-economic situation, people's lives, Party building, and cadre development.

General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong instructed grassroots officials to maintain close ties with the people, focusing on improving their lives, especially those of fishermen in coastal areas. He emphasized the need to regularly encourage the people to go out to sea to catch seafood and participate in protecting the sovereignty of the nation's maritime territories and islands.
The General Secretary noted that, in order to eradicate hunger and reduce poverty, it is necessary to transform the workforce, create occupations suitable for the development of the fisheries economy, and increase income for people living along the coast. Following the General Secretary's visit, the Party Committee of Tinh Ky commune focused on building the political system, staying close to the people, understanding their thoughts and feelings, especially the lives of fishermen.
The government acts as a bridge, facilitating people's access to capital to purchase fishing gear and equipment for offshore fishing and the protection of maritime sovereignty.
Fisherman Doan Don, from An Vinh village, owner of the 505hp fishing vessel QNg 91396 TS, has been a top-performing fisherman in Tinh Ky commune for many years. Mr. Don shared that in 2012, upon hearing that General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong was visiting the area for Tet (Lunar New Year), the fishermen put aside their family affairs to welcome him. Mr. Don still clearly remembers the General Secretary's words of advice when speaking to the local authorities about caring for the people, especially the fishermen in the coastal area.
Mr. Don's family boat is used for purse seine fishing in the Hoang Sa fishing grounds, providing employment for 25 local fishermen. "The fishermen of Tinh Ky have been connected to the sea for generations, and the General Secretary's words of encouragement have given us renewed strength. We always believe that as long as we have our health, we will continue to go out to sea to fish and maintain the sovereignty of our country's maritime territories," Mr. Don emphasized.
Closely connected with farmers.
From 2010 to 2016, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong visited and worked in Ben Tre twice; he always showed concern and affection for the cadres, Party members, and people of the homeland of the Dong Khoi Uprising.
Over the past few days, upon hearing the news of the passing of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, Mr. Vo Van Nhu, from Tan Thanh commune, Giong Trom district, Ben Tre province, couldn't help but feel sorrow and grief. He recalled the time more than eight years ago when General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong surveyed rice fields in Ben Tre affected by drought and salinity.

Upon being informed by the village leaders that the General Secretary would be visiting to talk with the villagers, Mr. Nhu was very anxious because he had never met a high-ranking leader before, and he felt a little embarrassed because he was in his farming clothes.
However, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong's approachable demeanor when meeting with the people dispelled his initial awkwardness. He remembers every detail and word spoken during that special meeting.
He said: "The first image I saw when General Secretary Trong stepped out of the car and walked towards the rice field was that of an extremely simple and endearing figure. General Secretary Trong smiled and waved to us, and we waved back. The General Secretary approached the field to observe and directly touched the rice plants to examine them. Afterwards, General Secretary Trong discussed with the people the impact of the drought and salinity, the difficulties they were facing, and encouraged them. The General Secretary encouraged them, saying that the drought and salinity were caused by natural disasters, and that farmers, together with the State, must work together to overcome this difficult period. The Party and the State will also have plans to support and accompany farmers in responding to climate change and natural disasters, and to continue to cultivate and produce better…"
Mr. Mai Tan Minh (66 years old) also recounted that day he was in the rice field, his hands and feet covered in mud, but President Nguyen Phu Trong did not hesitate to shake his hand. This left a lasting impression on Mr. Minh, who remembered the high-ranking leader who, undeterred by difficulties or hardships, went down to the fields to personally witness the challenges posed by natural disasters, and from there directed local authorities to make changes in responding to drought and salinity. Now, the people of the coconut region have proactively responded to climate change in production and in their daily lives.
Mr. Minh confided that even though he lives far away, every time the television and newspapers broadcast information and images of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong at working sessions or on business trips, he watches very carefully because "seeing him healthy makes me happy." Although he knows that this is also a normal part of life, hearing the news of the General Secretary's passing still fills him with regret.
Former Ben Tre Provincial Party Secretary Vo Thanh Hao shared that on March 17, 2016, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong's working visit to Ben Tre mainly focused on hearing reports on the implementation and concretization of the Resolution of the 10th Provincial Party Congress, term 2015-2020; inspecting, visiting, and encouraging people affected by drought and salinity; visiting Huu Dinh new rural commune (Chau Thanh district); and working with the Provincial Party Standing Committee.
When they began their survey trip in Giồng Trôm district, the General Secretary unexpectedly turned around and said, "Come with me in the car!" This was an unforeseen situation, leaving Mr. Võ Thành Hạo somewhat flustered.
Along the way, the General Secretary continued to ask him about the living conditions of the people, the development of the Provincial Party Committee's regulations, and the relationships within the Standing Committee; in particular, what difficulties he faced in working under conditions where the Provincial Party Secretary was not a member of the Central Committee.
The General Secretary paid particular attention to understanding how the Provincial Party Committee developed its action program with 113 tasks; he considered it an innovative approach.
When listening to the Provincial Party Committee's report on the "Dong Khoi" program for entrepreneurship, poverty alleviation, and wealth creation, the General Secretary listened very attentively. "After listening, the General Secretary welcomed Ben Tre's groundbreaking and forward-thinking approach. Clearly, no one can deny that the Dong Khoi movement was a historical milestone of the Southern revolution, a glorious achievement! But we cannot dwell on the past and simply be content with our basic needs. We must inherit and develop it so that the people are free from suffering and poverty, and become wealthy! The essence of culture and tradition lies here!" Mr. Vo Thanh Hao recounted.
During his interactions with General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, the former Secretary of the Ben Tre Provincial Party Committee stated that the General Secretary had pointed out a great lesson in leadership methods and principles that he himself always strives to learn and apply in his work.
"Regardless of his position, Comrade Nguyen Phu Trong has always been a loyal and steadfast official, a leader wholeheartedly dedicated to the country and its people," Mr. Vo Thanh Hao said emotionally.
