A journey of sharing

Xieng My is a remote and particularly disadvantaged commune in Tuong Duong district. After nearly 14 years of implementing the provincial People's Committee's policy of assisting poor communes, with the motto "giving a fishing rod," Nghe An Newspaper has helped Xieng My commune in many ways, such as: establishing a "breeding cattle bank" for poor households; providing seedlings to help people clear overgrown gardens, plant fruit trees, and develop household economies ; distributing thousands of gifts to poor households during the Lunar New Year; and mobilizing businesses inside and outside the province to support the commune in replacing thatched houses.

In addition, the newspaper also supported the People's Committee of Xieng My commune in purchasing equipment: computers, printers, photocopiers; and mobilized funds to buy blankets, warm clothes, and school equipment for students in the commune, such as 50 bunk beds, freezers, and large rice cookers. The Youth Union of Nghe An Newspaper also has many effective youth programs and activities here, such as helping a student in the area with difficult circumstances to excel in their studies.

Thanks to this collaborative effort, Xieng My commune has gradually transformed. Most encouragingly, the socio-economic life of the people in Xieng My commune has steadily improved. By the first six months of 2025, the poverty rate had decreased to 21.46%; the near-poverty rate to 18.99%; and the rate of well-off households reached 59.56%.

Many models, such as cattle breeding and fruit tree cultivation, are proving highly effective with the support of Nghe An Newspaper and various businesses and organizations. As a result, the average income of people in Xieng My commune has increased to nearly 30 million VND per person per year. It can be said that every change in the commune has been accompanied by the newspaper's support.

After more than two years of implementing the program to eliminate overgrown gardens, with over 2,000 saplings donated by Nghe An Newspaper and other organizations, many gardens in Xieng My commune have truly "put on a new coat" - lush green with trees bearing abundant fruit.

Ms. Vi Van Bay from Phay village, Xieng My commune, happily shared: “My family received support from the commune to plant a trial of Thai jackfruit varieties. After receiving the seedlings, technical staff came to our farm to guide us on how to plant and care for them. Now the jackfruit trees are bearing fruit, and traders are coming to the garden to buy them at 20,000 VND/kg, we are so happy!”

The donation of saplings is not only a material gift, but also a practical encouragement for people to boldly renovate their unproductive gardens, aiming for family economic development and gradually improving their quality of life. This is also how Nghe An Newspaper and its partners help the locality move closer to the goal of building new rural areas, and further, to developing sustainable and long-term commercial fruit tree cultivation models.

During the Lunar New Year of the Year of the Snake (2015), Nghe An Newspaper implemented the "Tet for the Poor" support program with the enthusiastic participation of its staff, reporters, and employees. The total amount donated was nearly 27 million VND. Not stopping there, Nghe An Newspaper also appealed to and connected with individuals and businesses to distribute 444 gift packages, totaling 205 million VND, to poor households in many communes across the province, such as Xieng My commune (Tuong Duong district); Hung Nghia and Chau Nhan communes (Hung Nguyen district); and communes in Thanh Chuong and Yen Thanh districts and Vinh City.

The Youth Union of Nghe An Newspaper, in coordination with the Tha Do Border Guard Station, the Technical and External Affairs Department of the Provincial Police, the DCI Nghe An Group, and Thien An Gia Joint Stock Company, distributed 180 gift packages to residents of Tha Do village (Ky Son district) and Na Muong village (Noong Het district). Each gift package, worth 350,000 VND, included rice, salt, fish sauce, dried fish, and other essential items. Through these activities, Nghe An Newspaper hopes to contribute to bringing a warm and hopeful Spring season to families in difficult circumstances.

Each page of the newspaper became a bridge of love.

Beyond providing material support, journalists at Nghe An Newspaper also leverage the power of their pens as a bridge of compassion, helping those less fortunate receive care and support from the community.

Heartwarming articles about difficult circumstances, regularly published in newspapers, not only reflect the realities of life but also ignite hope for those involved.

Many unfortunate circumstances have received timely support thanks to the sincere and humane messages conveyed by reporters from Nghe An Newspaper. Newspaper pages act as an invisible bridge, connecting charitable hearts closer to those less fortunate.

Take the case of Ms. Truong Thi Chung's family in Tho Hop commune, Quy Hop district – both husband and wife, and their young son, are suffering from cancer. Their already difficult circumstances have become even more dire. After Nghe An Newspaper published their story in May 2025, many philanthropists joined hands to help. To date, the family has received nearly 250 million VND in support.

Ms. Truong Thi Chung emotionally expressed her gratitude to Nghe An Newspaper and all the kind-hearted people who have given her and her family motivation and a solid foundation to fight against this serious illness.

Reporter Thu Huong (Communications Department, Nghe An Newspaper) shared: "Journalism is not just about writing news, but also about the responsibility of sharing and connecting with those who need to be heard. On every trip to disadvantaged areas, I always inquire about and gather information about the circumstances of those who need help, in order to encourage them, connect with them, and spread sharing within the community..."

This June, the newspaper also facilitated connections with businesses to support the construction of 5 charitable houses for poor households in the province (worth 60 million VND/house) and awarded 20 scholarships to underprivileged students who have overcome difficulties (each scholarship worth 1 million VND).

The charitable journey of Nghe An Newspaper doesn't stop at numbers or landmarks, but continues to be written by ordinary, sincere people. Each article, each gift, each trip is a mark of human kindness, gentle yet profound.

Nghe An Newspaper always prioritizes its responsibility to the community. From 2023 to the present, the total value of charitable activities that Nghe An Newspaper, together with businesses, organizations, and individuals, has called for and raised donations for has reached nearly 10 billion VND.

  • Nearly 2,000 Tet gifts, worth nearly 1 billion VND in total, were donated to poor households throughout the province, contributing to a warmer Spring season for those less fortunate.
  • Supported the construction of 12 sturdy houses for impoverished families.
  • Regularly call for and collect donations of essential supplies, equipment, and household items for schools and people in disadvantaged areas, especially those affected by natural disasters, storms, and floods.
  • Donating thousands of saplings to localities such as Tuong Duong, Yen Thanh…
  • At the same time, every year, Nghe An Newspaper connects with and calls for sponsorships to create funding for organizing the Nghe An Newspaper Cup Youth and Children's Football Tournament and awarding hundreds of scholarships to underprivileged students who overcome difficulties.
