Following a review of the current state of the dike system, the People's Committee of Hop Tien commune and relevant agencies have developed a plan to protect the key Ngo Dong sluice gate to ensure safety during this year's rainy and stormy season.
The Ngo Dong sluice gate, part of the right bank dike of the Kinh Thay River, was constructed in 1985 to regulate water for agricultural production in Hop Tien commune. Currently, the sluice gate is in a state of disrepair, with a short body and rotten wooden sluices. Meanwhile, the dike's foundation has complex geological conditions, with a steep slope upstream of the sluice gate and significant erosion downstream. The downstream section of the canal after the sluice gate, inland from the fields, has a thick layer of sand, leading to frequent sand flow, reducing the canal's depth and affecting irrigation capacity.
If a major flood occurs, causing a prolonged difference in water levels upstream and downstream of the sluice gate, the risk of bubbling or gushing incidents downstream of the Ngo Dong sluice gate is very high, threatening the safety of the dike system.

To ensure the safety of the Ngo Dong sluice gate during the rainy season, local authorities and relevant agencies have prepared response plans based on specific hypothetical scenarios. If prolonged heavy rain and rising river levels pose a significant safety risk, the Hop Tien Commune Civil Defense Command will issue an alert, mobilizing personnel, materials, and equipment to address the incident immediately.
Local authorities have deployed 300 people, 10 cars, 6 excavators, 3 generators, 3,500 sandbags, 1,500 m³ of soil, bamboo, reed fences, crushed stone, and yellow sand to be ready to respond should an incident occur at the Ngo Dong sluice gate.
