Currently, many infectious diseases are appearing and spreading widely, such as conjunctivitis, chickenpox, diphtheria, hand, foot and mouth disease, etc.
In Ho Chi Minh City, the acute conjunctivitis (pink eye) epidemic is spreading rapidly. In just the past month, the Outpatient Department of the Ho Chi Minh City Eye Hospital alone has received nearly 500 cases, and hospitals across the city have recorded a 10% increase in the number of pink eye cases.
According to statistics from the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health , as of now, the city has 23,873 cases of conjunctivitis across all age groups. When a child is diagnosed with conjunctivitis, families should keep them home from school and isolate them to prevent the spread of the disease. Parents should also note that if their child shows signs such as sensitivity to light, fussiness, rapidly developing swelling, or cloudy eyes, they should take them to the hospital for timely examination and treatment.

* On September 15th, Dr. Tran Thi Thanh Tam, Head of the Examination Department ( Can Tho Eye and Maxillofacial Hospital), stated that in recent days, especially from September 13th to 15th, the hospital has recorded many cases of conjunctivitis. Accordingly, each day there were approximately 50 cases out of 250 patients who came for examination for conjunctivitis. The majority of these were elementary school children.
At the hospital, several cases have been recorded where parents brought their children in for conjunctivitis examination the day before, and then returned the next day with conjunctivitis themselves due to infection. Currently, the health sector of Can Tho City and schools are coordinating to strengthen awareness campaigns to help students prevent the disease.
* On September 15th, the Dak Lak Provincial Center for Disease Control announced that the hand, foot, and mouth disease outbreak is currently spreading rapidly in the province. As of September 12th, the province had recorded nearly 1,200 cases of hand, foot, and mouth disease in children across 21 outbreaks, including 3 deaths.
Furthermore, according to the Dak Lak Eye Hospital, the conjunctivitis epidemic has been developing complicatedly since the beginning of September. The number of people seeking treatment for conjunctivitis at medical facilities has increased sharply. Specifically, the Dak Lak Eye Hospital alone receives and treats 300 cases per day.
In Gia Lai, according to the Gia Lai Provincial Center for Disease Control, from August 1st to September 11th, 11 medical facilities in the province recorded over 4,644 cases of conjunctivitis, mainly among students. The reason for the rapid spread of the disease is the return of students to school at this time. The risk of the disease continuing to increase in the coming period is high if preventive measures are not taken. The center advises people with symptoms of conjunctivitis to go to a medical facility for examination, consultation, and treatment. Patients should isolate themselves, not self-medicate with eye drops, and not apply betel leaves or mulberry leaves to their eyes.
