Working with the police, the driver stated that on the morning of January 14th, she was driving to the Mekong Delta for work. Due to unfamiliarity with the route and a flat tire, she drove against traffic for about 500 meters, looking for a turnoff to National Highway 1 to repair the car.
In footage from another car's dashcam, the female driver was seen driving against the flow of traffic at a fairly high speed, repeatedly flashing her lights to warn others. The road was empty at the time, with few other vehicles passing by.
