Le Son village, now part of Van Hoa commune (Tuyen Hoa district, Quang Binh province ), is the place that marks one of the most glorious chapters in the resistance war against French colonialism.
Strategically located with its back against the majestic Truong Son mountain range and facing the Gianh River, Le Son quickly became a key defensive line and a gateway protecting the Tuyen Hoa free zone in the early days of the resistance war.

When the French colonialists began deploying troops to Quang Binh, the people and soldiers of Le Son, undeterred by difficulties and hardships, took advantage of the mountainous and riverine terrain to organize guerrilla forces, dig trenches and build fortifications, creating a solid defensive position to repel many large-scale attacks by the enemy.
Throughout the period 1947–1952, Le Son was repeatedly targeted for capture by the French colonialists. The battles on April 17th, November 24-25, 1948, and January 26, 1949, are clear evidence of the courage and resilience of the local people and soldiers.
Under the tightly-packed defensive village defenses, fortified with bamboo fences, homemade minefields, and a system of sturdy trenches, the French suffered continuous losses and repeatedly fled in panic. Le Son truly became an impregnable "fortress" on the front lines of the resistance, contributing to the protection of the province's central government and extending the defensive posture of the people and army of Quang Binh throughout the most difficult times.

More than 70 years have passed, yet the remaining traces in Le Son still remind today's generation of the indomitable spirit and unwavering will of their ancestors.
The Le Son Battle Village is not only a historical site of immense value for research and teaching, but also a beautiful symbol of people's war strategy, a place where the tradition of indomitable spirit and unwavering loyalty is embodied.
