Workshop "Visit Vietnam - Connecting Data, Shaping the Future of Tourism "

In his opening remarks at the workshop, Deputy Director of the Vietnam National Tourism Administration Pham Van Thuy affirmed that, with the continuous efforts of the entire industry, the close attention and guidance of the Party, State, Government, and Prime Minister , and the joint efforts of localities, businesses, and people, Vietnamese tourism has made a strong recovery and achieved remarkable development.

In 2025, Vietnam's tourism industry is expected to welcome a record 21.5 million international visitors, a 21% increase compared to 2024, far exceeding the 18 million visitors in 2019 – the period before the Covid-19 pandemic. Domestic tourists are estimated to reach nearly 140 million, with total tourism revenue exceeding 1 trillion VND, becoming a crucial driving force for economic growth and enhancing the country's position on the international stage.

The ceremony welcoming the 20 millionth international tourist to Vietnam, held on December 15th on Phu Quoc Island, is a historic milestone in the 65-year history of Vietnam's tourism industry and an unforgettable mark for Phu Quoc in particular.

This achievement stems from the correct and timely policies of the Party and State that facilitate tourism, innovation in promotion and advertising, and diversification of tourism products; in particular, the application of technology and digital transformation have been identified as key solutions to help the tourism industry break through, maintain high growth momentum, manage effectively, and improve service quality.

Pham Van Thuy, Deputy Director General of the Vietnam National Tourism Administration, delivered the opening remarks at the workshop.

According to Pham Van Thuy, Deputy Director of the Vietnam National Tourism Administration, recognizing the importance of digital transformation, the Vietnam National Tourism Administration has made efforts in recent years to build a smart tourism ecosystem based on the formation of a centralized, unified, and synchronized database system.

"Most recently, we advised the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to issue the "Program to promote digital transformation of smart tourism in the tourism sector," which emphasizes the development of a digital data system as a foundation for building a smart tourism model, ensuring connectivity with the utilities of Project 06, promoting the exploitation of added value from data; aiming to build a national tourism data ecosystem that ensures the following elements: "accurate, complete, clean, vibrant, unified, and shared."

The Vietnam National Tourism Administration highly appreciates the role of the National Data Association in leading the data ecosystem and the efforts of Sun Group in developing and operating the Visit Vietnam platform. I also express my appreciation for the collaborative role of VISA and other partners who have contributed data, technological solutions, and payment methods to complete this ecosystem," Mr. Pham Van Thuy stated.

According to Deputy Director Pham Van Thuy, the Visit Vietnam version introduced today, although still in its initial development phase, already shows a very clear picture of the future: a platform capable of displaying the "pulse" of the market in real time - from visitor density at each destination, search trends, spending volume by market... thereby effectively supporting market forecasting, improving destination quality and optimizing business operations.

Visit Vietnam is more than just a data platform. It represents a shift in development thinking, a way for us to prepare for the future of tourism, a future based on data, technology, and artificial intelligence. When data becomes the foundation, Vietnamese tourism will be better positioned to enhance its competitiveness, attract higher-value customer segments more effectively, and move closer to its goal of becoming a leading destination in the region.

"The Vietnam National Tourism Administration is committed to working alongside the National Data Association, Sun Group, and partners to develop the Visit Vietnam platform, bringing practical benefits to the Vietnamese tourism industry and contributing to promoting the digital economy in the tourism sector as directed by the Government," Mr. Pham Van Thuy affirmed.

Mr. Manideep Gupta, Vice President for the Asia-Pacific region, shared his insights at the conference.

Mr. Manideep Gupta, Vice President for Asia Pacific at Visa, commented on the outlook for global international tourism, with the Asia Pacific region projected to grow by 15%. In Vietnam, while the number of tourists from China has decreased, this is offset by the increase in visitors from other markets such as South Korea, Taiwan, and Singapore, all of which have seen growth in tourist numbers to Vietnam. MICE tourism is also a promising type of tourism for Vietnam.

Through Visa data, we can learn what tourists do and how they spend their money in Vietnam, compared to the past. Interestingly, entertainment and high-end retail are increasingly attracting tourists' attention, meaning they are not only seeking natural beauty but also looking for special entertainment events and spending money on shopping.

Mr. Dang Minh Truong - Member of the Founding Council, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Sun Group, delivered a speech.

Mr. Dang Minh Truong, a founding member and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Sun Group, emphasized that we are witnessing a strong transformation of Vietnamese tourism. For the first time in its 65-year history, Vietnam has welcomed its 20 millionth international visitor. However, this growth does not allow us to "rest on our laurels." On the contrary, this growth rate demands that the tourism industry have a unified, accurate, and real-time data system – to improve destination quality, optimize operations, support policy planning, and enhance competitiveness on the international stage.

Visit Vietnam was created to meet that specific need and strategy, aiming to form the first national tourism data system connecting three major stakeholders: management agencies, businesses, and tourists. This is not just a technology platform, but a "soft infrastructure" for the tourism industry: helping to accurately measure the market, clearly see the tourist journey, deeply understand needs, analyze trends, and thereby organize better and more sustainable products and services.

"Once completed and officially operational, we expect Visit Vietnam to create groundbreaking changes for the country's tourism industry. In particular, the collaboration with strategic partner Visa – the world's leading electronic payment company – will add a crucial layer of payment data, helping the platform become a more comprehensive market analysis infrastructure for the tourism industry."

"Sun Group is committed to working alongside the Government, the National Data Association, the Vietnam National Tourism Administration, and partners to develop Visit Vietnam into a national data asset, contributing to ushering Vietnamese tourism into a new era – an era of data, transparent governance, and sustainable tourism experiences," Mr. Dang Minh Truong expressed.

Colonel Ha Nam Trung - Deputy Director of the National Data Center, delivered a speech.

Speaking at the conference, Colonel Ha Nam Trung, Deputy Director of the National Data Center, emphasized that many countries around the world have successfully developed the data economy through building national technology platforms and investing heavily in data infrastructure. In Vietnam, during this period of national development, the aspiration for digital transformation has become a shared vision of the Government, the business community, and the entire society. Developing the data economy is a strategic choice for Vietnam to break through, narrow the gap, integrate deeply, and enhance its competitiveness in the international arena.

Particularly in the tourism sector, a comprehensive economic sector and a key economic driver of the country, the application of digital transformation and digital technologies and data to tourism activities promises to provide tourists with more attractive experiences, as well as effectively solve difficult problems related to human resources, time, and operating costs. This will contribute to the national economy and overall development.

Therefore, the launch of the Visit Vietnam platform today not only marks the birth of a new technological solution, but also opens a new phase of development for Vietnam's tourism industry, a phase of applying data to operations.

This is the first step for Vietnam's tourism industry to shift towards "data-driven management," and it's a fundamental change that will create long-term competitiveness for the country.

With its ability to connect data from government agencies, domestic businesses, and international organizations, Visit Vietnam opens up an ecosystem where: Tourists can access more authentic, intelligent, and secure information; Businesses can better understand the market and make more accurate decisions; and Government agencies can forecast and formulate policies based on real-time data.

"The National Data Center - Ministry of Public Security is ready to support the National Data Association and its member businesses in creating a safe and transparent environment for Vietnamese technology companies like Sun Group to develop their capabilities and contribute solutions to the nation. Sun Group's pioneering role in developing and operating the Visit Vietnam platform is clear evidence of effective and forward-looking public-private cooperation," Colonel Ha Nam Trung expressed.
