On the afternoon of May 17th, Mr. Huynh Van Loi, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture and Sports of Binh Dinh province, announced that the People's Committee of Binh Dinh province had issued a document agreeing to the department's proposal to name the avenue after Nobel and honor Nobel Prize-winning scientists who have visited Quy Nhon city in recent years.

The above project was proposed based on a recommendation from the Quy Nhon City People's Committee. Currently, the project is being developed for submission to the Binh Dinh Provincial People's Committee for approval. The funding is expected to be raised by the local authorities through social mobilization and donations from philanthropists.

Accordingly, the Nobel Avenue will be implemented in the Quy Hoa Science Urban Area (in Ghenh Rang Ward, Quy Nhon City), where there is already a science avenue named in July 2017 by Professor Gerardus 't Hooft (from the Netherlands), the 1999 Nobel Prize winner in physics.

According to a proposal from the Quy Nhon City People's Committee, the Nobel Avenue project will be implemented in conjunction with the placement of statues of Nobel Prize-winning scientists who have visited the International Center for Interdisciplinary Science and Education (ICISE, in Ghenh Rang Ward, Quy Nhon City) for conferences and research.

According to Mr. Nguyen Phuong Nam, Vice Chairman of the Quy Nhon City People's Committee, the continuous contributions and activities of Professor Tran Thanh Van and his wife have led to the establishment of Vietnam's first science city in Quy Nhon. Currently, in addition to the Science Discovery Center, the ICISE Center, and various scientific research institutes, many businesses are investing in projects such as a software park, a science and education city, and a science-focused hotel.

"The naming of the avenue after Nobel aims to honor and show respect for the Nobel laureates who have visited Quy Hoa. In addition, it creates a new highlight, establishing a completely new science tourism route for visitors to Quy Nhon," Mr. Nam further explained.

Alfred Bernhard Nobel (1833-1896) was a Swedish chemist. He was also an industrialist who invented dynamite, becoming a millionaire, and later used his entire fortune to establish a scientific prize bearing his name. In Vietnam, schools in Hanoi, Thanh Hoa, and other locations are named after him.
