On June 27th, commentator Tran Duy Anh attracted attention when he shared his story about reporting on some of the group stage matches of the 2026 World Cup.
He stated that he commented on a total of 7 group stage matches, including South Korea vs. Czech Republic (2-1), Haiti vs. Scotland (0-1), Spain vs. Cape Verde (0-0), Uzbekistan vs. Colombia (1-3), Belgium vs. Iran (0-0), Paraguay vs. Australia (0-0), and Cape Verde vs. Saudi Arabia (0-0). Of these, 4 matches ended in a 0-0 draw.
The male commentator went through a streak of three consecutive matches without a goal. This meant he didn't have the chance to shout out his familiar goal celebration.
"I've gone three games in a row without getting to shout 'gooooooo'," he wrote.
Speaking to Tri Thức - Znews , Duy Anh said that any football commentator looks forward to the moment of shouting "goal!" after a goal. However, that moment has yet to come for him after the group stage of the 2026 World Cup.
"I also want to have some exhilarating moments when commentating on a match," he said, adding that the matches he covers still have many noteworthy situations, exciting developments, and constantly create opportunities towards the goal. It's just a pity the ball doesn't go into the net.
According to the commentator, he only coincidentally compiled the statistics of the matches he commented on and shared them on social media because he found it interesting. "I posted it for fun, I didn't think the post would be shared so widely," he said.
Many viewers jokingly called Tran Duy Anh the "unluckiest commentator in the group stage." Some even humorously suggested that VTV consider assigning him to comment on high-scoring matches in the knockout round to "change his luck."
Tran Duy Anh is currently one of nine commentators accompanying viewers on their journey through the 2026 World Cup for the VTV Sports Television Center.
Before joining VTV, he was a familiar face to viewers watching La Liga on SCTV. He was praised for his youthful commentary style, focusing on tactical analysis and professional developments.
