From the inter-village road, we walked more than 2km along a hillside trail to reach the house recently built and donated by the Gia Nghia City Military Command to Ms. Tran Thi Bien and her husband, in Tan Phu village, Dak R'moan commune, Gia Nghia City.

In their spacious new home, Ms. Bien explained that the reason she and her husband had fallen into poverty was because they didn't know how to do business.

Colonel Tong Tran Thanh, Deputy Head of Political Affairs of the Dak Nong Provincial Military Command, congratulated the family of Ms. Tran Thi Bien in Tan Phu village, Dak R'moan commune, Gia Nghia city on their new house and wished them an early escape from poverty.

The couple's only asset is a little over one sao (approximately 1000 square meters) of land given to them by their parents. On this land, she grows a few cashew and coffee trees, but the income is not enough to cover their living expenses. The family has been living in a shack for nearly 10 years.

In 2023, Ms. Bien and her husband received a pair of cows worth 30 million VND from the Gia Nghia City Military Command to help them earn a living. Last October, the family was further supported by the Gia Nghia City Military Command with a newly built house measuring over 35 square meters , costing a total of 80 million VND.

"We are very grateful to the soldiers and the local government. We will work hard to escape poverty soon," Ms. Bien expressed.

Next to Ms. Bien's house is the family of Ms. Dinh Thi Hang. Ms. Hang and her husband have three young children, and their only assets are about two acres of land planted with some cashew and coffee trees.

Last October, Ms. Hang's family received a cow from the Gia Nghia City Military Command to help them earn a living. "Although we are farmers, we had never raised cows before. Thanks to the soldiers' guidance, we have learned the techniques for breeding cows. We are striving to escape poverty next year," Ms. Hang said.

Ms. Hoang Thi Kim, residing in Tan Loi village, Dak R'moan commune, is over 60 years old and in difficult circumstances. She received support from the Party Committee and the Military Command of Gia Nghia City, including 5 goats worth 31 million VND. To date, the herd has produced 3 more offspring. She hopes the goats will provide her with a stable income in the future.

Ms. Kim happily shared: “I currently live alone. Last year, I was classified as a poor household. Thanks to the soldiers' help, this year I am classified as a near-poor household.”

Following the principle of "hands-on guidance" in assisting the people, from 2021 to the present, the Party Committee of the Gia Nghia City Military Command has helped 8 poor households rise out of poverty.

Specifically, the unit donated 4 cows and 14 breeding goats; and built one house for the poor, with a total value of 201 million VND. All the funding for these activities came from contributions by cadres and Party members within the unit, as well as from external organizations, businesses, and individuals.

In 2021, Gia Nghia City had 115 poor households with 479 people, accounting for 0.57%; and 126 near-poor households with 493 people, accounting for 0.62%. By the end of 2023, the city still had 87 poor households with 358 people, accounting for 0.42%.

Colonel Tong Tran Thanh, Deputy Head of Political Affairs of the Dak Nong Provincial Military Command, assessed that the approach of the Party Committee of the Gia Nghia City Military Command has actively contributed to the implementation of the "Army working together to build new rural areas" movement and the "For the poor - leaving no one behind" emulation movement.

The Gia Nghia City Military Command, together with the local Party committee and government, has contributed to the successful achievement of economic, cultural, and social development goals linked to national defense and security in the area.

"

The "Each Party branch helps one household escape poverty sustainably" model of the Party Committee of the Gia Nghia City Military Command was evaluated by the Gia Nghia City Party Committee as an outstanding example of effective mass mobilization in 2023. We will study and implement this approach on a larger scale.

Mr. Do Tan Suong, Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee and Chairman of the People's Committee of Gia Nghia City.
