Minister Nguyen Manh Hung: Can attract global scientists and technologists to solve Vietnam's 'big problem'

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the Vietnam Science and Technology Day 2025 on the afternoon of May 16, Minister of Science and Technology Nguyen Manh Hung emphasized: "Vietnam will develop to become a developed socialist country with high income, with GDP/capita of 20,000-25,000 USD by 2045.

Now, the dream is big enough, the work is big enough, difficult enough, and with money, we can attract global knowledge, scientists, and technologists to participate in solving Vietnam's big problems, and through that, our country's science and technology will develop, and the country will develop."

According to the Minister, science is not only in the laboratory, on the pages of books, but must enter life, solve big problems of the country, bring prosperity and happiness to the people. "Today, we are here to celebrate, honor, especially together affirm the determination to create a new future for science, technology, innovation and digital transformation of the country", said Minister Nguyen Manh Hung.

Looking back on the past, Minister Nguyen Manh Hung said that every officer in the Science and Technology sector is extremely proud and deeply grateful for the efforts, intelligence and silent dedication of previous generations that have laid a solid foundation for today's achievements - achievements that have contributed to making Vietnam's appearance brighter and stronger.

Minister Nguyen Manh Hung shared more, the Ministry of Science and Technology is now 5 fingers on one hand: Science and technology, Intellectual property, Innovation, Standards, measurement and quality, Digital transformation. Science and technology is the machine that produces knowledge.

Intellectual property is turning that knowledge into assets that can be traded, creating an intellectual property market, helping knowledge leave the laboratory and travel far; Innovation is bringing that intelligence to create products and wealth for society.

"Quality Measurement Standards (QMS) are the assurance of shape and quality for mass products; Digital transformation is a new environment, new land, new tools for development. These 5 fingers are a comprehensive whole for science and technology development," the Minister emphasized.

Minister Nguyen Manh Hung also committed that the actions of the Ministry of Science and Technology in the coming time will be concretized through strategic pillars such as: Perfecting the legal system, mechanisms, and policies to promote research - innovation - technology application; Unblocking capital sources, diversifying funding forms, and simplifying research support processes.

Repositioning the role of enterprises - from beneficiaries to leading subjects in innovation and technology commercialization; Prioritizing the development of key technologies such as AI, microchips, biology, new energy, digital technology - as a breakthrough platform; Promoting the linkage between institutes - schools - enterprises - the State to form a comprehensive innovation ecosystem.

With a pioneering spirit, the Ministry of Science and Technology is committed to continuing to accompany the scientific community, businesses and people, creating a comprehensive innovation ecosystem - where every creative idea has the opportunity to become reality, every scientific product contributes to improving the quality of life, protecting the environment and enhancing national competitiveness.

At the event, the Organizing Committee honored a number of outstanding science and technology products and works in 2024. These are all achievements with high practical application value, contributing to solving urgent problems of the country, while improving the quality of life for the people.

The award ceremony not only recognizes and honors the outstanding contributions of scientists, businesses, research institutes and universities, but also strongly spreads the spirit of innovation and creativity, arouses the motivation to contribute in the community, towards the sustainable development of Vietnam.
