On May 8th, the Food Safety Department ( Ministry of Health ) sent a document to the Quang Binh Department of Health requesting an investigation and handling of food safety concerns regarding bottled water products in the area.
Previously, on May 6, 2023, the media reported the discovery of leeches in bottled drinking water from Bang Mineral Water Joint Stock Company, located in Kien Giang town, Le Thuy district, Quang Binh province.
According to the information, Ms. Duong Thi Thuy Ha, Principal of Phong Thuy Kindergarten, confirmed that leeches were found in the water bottles delivered to the school by Bang Mineral Water Joint Stock Company (located in Kien Giang town, Le Thuy district).
After discovering leeches in a water bottle, Phong Thuy Kindergarten contacted the water supply company and filed an initial report to conduct an investigation. The water bottle containing the leeches was subsequently returned by the company. Simultaneously, the school stopped using bottled water from Bang Mineral Water Joint Stock Company. Teachers now boil water from the school's clean water source for students to ensure safety.
To proactively monitor, detect, and promptly address violations of food safety regulations in food production and business, in response to the information received, the Food Safety Department requests the Quang Binh Department of Health to direct relevant units to urgently implement the following:
Firstly, investigate and verify the information as reported above, take samples of suspected unsafe food products for testing of food safety indicators; detect and strictly handle food safety violations and publicize them through mass media.
Secondly, strengthen inspection and supervision activities to ensure food safety at bottled and packaged drinking water production facilities in the area, and strictly handle any food safety violations (if any).
At the same time, the Food Safety Department also requested the Quang Binh Department of Health to strengthen information, communication and guidance for people and businesses to raise awareness and responsibility in ensuring food safety in food production and business.../.
