Vietnam table tennis team goes to the US to participate in the tournament

The 2024 US Open will take place from December 16 to 22 in Las Vegas, Nevada. This is the first time Vietnamese table tennis has sent a team to the tournament.

The delegation participating in the tournament is led by Mr. Tran Canh Tuan (Vice President of the Vietnam Table Tennis Federation). Coaches and athletes include: Huynh Ngoc Giau (Coach), Nguyen Anh Tu, Dinh Anh Hoang, Nguyen Duy Phong, Tran Mai Ngoc, Nguyen Hanh Ngan, Nguyen Nhu Quynh, Do Le Van Chi, Do Le Van Linh, Huynh Ho Thien Thao (Athletes).

There are also a number of athletes of other age groups in some localities participating in the tournament on a self-funded basis.

Among the official Vietnamese table tennis athletes attending the tournament are leading players: Nguyen Anh Tu (2 SEA Games gold medalists in men's doubles and men's team in 2017 and 2019), Dinh Anh Hoang, Tran Mai Ngoc (2023 SEA Games champions in mixed doubles), and promising young Vietnamese table tennis athletes.

Before leaving for the US to compete, these athletes had just participated in the 2024 National Table Tennis Tournament for Excellent Players in Hai Duong . Nguyen Anh Tu was the men's singles champion, Dinh Anh Hoang won the silver medal.

The entire budget for the trip was mobilized by the Vietnam Table Tennis Federation from socialized sources, mainly sponsored by Mr. Tran Canh Tuan.

This is the first time that the top Vietnamese table tennis players have been to the US to participate in a major tournament, with the presence of many of the world's top players. The goal of the Vietnamese players is to compete and gain experience.

The biggest goal of Vietnamese table tennis in the coming time is to aim for a gold medal at the 2025 SEA Games in Thailand. In the last 4 consecutive SEA Games, table tennis has completed the target of winning gold medals at each event.

Previously in 2023, the Vietnamese table tennis team went to the US for training for the first time, also with financial support from philanthropists who are passionate about table tennis.
