Therefore, some meals, though simple, become unforgettable memories. For Captain Truong Thi Hoa, Assistant to the Political Department, Economic-Defense Brigade 719, Army Corps 16, it was a family reunion meal many years ago, when her husband, Major Luong Huu Huan (then a finance officer of Regiment 719, now Economic-Defense Brigade 719), returned to his unit after completing his mission.

At that time, Ms. Hoa was a kindergarten teacher at Area 134, Production Team 4, Regiment 735 (the former unit designation of the 719 Economic -Defense Group). Her husband was often away on duty, so she single-handedly managed both her job and the family.
The months Huân spent on duty at the border were also the months Hoa lived in longing and anticipation. Communication wasn't always easy. Short phone calls became a source of encouragement for them to overcome the geographical distance. "There were days when we could only talk for a few minutes before having to hang up because he had another assignment. The further apart we were, the more we longed for the day we could be together for a family meal," Hoa shared.
Therefore, upon receiving the news that her husband had completed his mission and was preparing to return, Ms. Hoa couldn't hide her joy. She hurried to the market early, selecting familiar ingredients to prepare a family meal. The meal consisted of only a few simple dishes like sour fish soup, roasted peanuts, and a bowl of chili fish sauce, but it contained so much anticipation after months of separation.
And as the gate creaked open, under the setting sun, Major Luong Huu Huan returned after a long journey, his uniform still dusty and his heavy backpack slung over his shoulder. His wife, Hoa, rushed to the door to greet him. That moment brought an outpouring of longing and anticipation. Recalling that memory, Hoa still feels emotional: “What I remember most isn’t the food on the table, but the feeling of seeing him return safely. Just being together as a family was enough to make me happy.”
The meal took place in a warm and intimate atmosphere. The husband recounted stories from work, and the wife shared tales from home. After months of separation, sitting together for a simple family meal had become a happiness they both had longed for.
To date, Captain Truong Thi Hoa's family has welcomed a baby daughter, and family meals have become more frequent than before. However, whenever she recalls the years her husband was away on duty, she still fondly remembers those reunion meals. That meal also serves as a source of motivation for the soldier, allowing him to focus on his work and steadfastly fulfill his assigned duties.
