Comprehensive development, better serving the people.

Recognizing healthcare as a priority sector closely linked to quality of life and social welfare , Ca Mau province is steadfast in its goal of building a modern, friendly, and efficient healthcare system for the people. The healthcare sector is tasked with both proactively preventing and controlling diseases and improving the quality of medical examination and treatment at all levels.

Currently, the province's healthcare network is increasingly完善 with 8 provincial-level hospitals (including 2 general hospitals and 6 specialized hospitals), 5 regional general hospitals, 11 regional health centers with inpatient beds, and 64 commune and ward health stations, all meeting national healthcare standards. The total number of healthcare staff in public facilities is over 4,800, effectively meeting the healthcare needs of the people in the new situation.

Along with improving the quality of human resources , modern medical equipment is a crucial factor in creating new progress for the province's healthcare system. According to assessments by specialized agencies, medical facilities in the province generally meet the needs for examination and treatment of common illnesses. The provincial-level hospital system, in particular, has invested heavily in advanced equipment, meeting the requirements for treating complex diseases.

Ca Mau Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital is constantly innovating and applying scientific and technological advancements in the examination and treatment of newborns.

Notably, Ca Mau General Hospital and Ca Mau Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital have actively collaborated with central-level hospitals such as Cho Ray Hospital, Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Can Tho Central Hospital, Tu Du Hospital, and Children's Hospital 1... to transfer technology and train personnel. As a result, many modern and specialized techniques have been effectively implemented, such as stroke treatment, cancer radiotherapy, ERCP, advanced resuscitation, and neonatal hemodialysis. Particularly noteworthy is the transfer of the "permanent pacemaker implantation" technique from Cho Ray Hospital – a difficult technique requiring high professional expertise – marking a significant step forward in the province's cardiovascular intervention field.

Thanks to comprehensive investment, the hospital has been able to implement many new techniques, thereby enabling people in Ca Mau to access high-tech services right in their hometown, saving time and costs.

These changes are clearly felt by the people. Mr. Duong Tan Vu (Cai Nuoc commune) expressed: "The provincial healthcare system has developed a lot now. Before, serious illnesses had to be transferred to Can Tho City or Ho Chi Minh City, but now many cases can be treated by doctors in the province, so we feel very reassured."

Mastering the technique of "permanent pacemaker implantation" at Ca Mau General Hospital marks a new step forward in the field of cardiovascular intervention in the locality.

Improving primary healthcare

In addition to investing in provincial-level healthcare, to ensure people have access to high-quality medical services at the grassroots level, the capacity of medical staff and the equipment for commune and ward health stations have been continuously improved.

According to the head of the Department of Health, upgrading the grassroots level is not only a general trend in the national health sector but also aligns with local practical conditions. Commune-level health stations have been and are receiving investment with the goal of meeting the increasingly high demand for medical examination and treatment from the province's residents.

The Song Doc Commune Health Station is a prime example. At the end of 2024, during a visit and working session with the Standing Committee of the Ca Mau Provincial Party Committee, General Secretary To Lam donated many modern medical equipment, creating conditions for the people of Song Doc to increasingly enjoy quality medical services right where they live.

Thanks to the medical equipment donated by General Secretary To Lam, the quality of medical examination and treatment at Song Doc Commune Health Station has improved significantly.

Dr. Vu Van Nam, Deputy Head of the Song Doc Commune Health Station, happily stated: “A few years ago, people mainly came to the station for vaccinations or initial first aid, but now, with the invested equipment, the station can examine and manage chronic diseases, monitor pregnancies, perform ultrasounds, blood sugar tests, electrocardiograms, etc. The staff receives regular training, so the quality of service has improved significantly.”

Ms. Tran Kim Loan (64 years old, Song Doc commune), a long-time hypertension patient, shared: “Previously, I had to go to the district hospital for follow-up examinations and medication, which took a lot of time. Now that the commune health station has an electrocardiogram machine, I can get examined right near my home, which is very convenient.”

The achievements clearly demonstrate the province's sound policy of bringing quality healthcare services closer to the people. Not content with the immediate results, the Project to Improve the Quality of Medical Examination and Treatment at Public Healthcare Facilities by 2030 identifies the focus as continuing to maintain and upgrade commune health stations according to the standards of the Ministry of Health; supplementing essential equipment; training and professional development for doctors and medical staff, and increasing their ability to handle complex cases locally.

The strategy of improving the overall quality of healthcare and prioritizing investment in grassroots healthcare is bringing about significant changes to Ca Mau's health sector: people are receiving better and more convenient healthcare; healthcare facilities are developing evenly; and doctors and medical staff have a professional working environment. In the vibrant atmosphere of spring, these results are even more meaningful, creating a solid foundation for Ca Mau to build a modern, comprehensive, and humane healthcare system that meets the expectations of the people and aligns with the province's development orientation in the new phase.
