A proud achievement
Kinh Mon town covers an area of approximately 165.34 km² and has a permanent population of over 180,000 people. Located in the northeast of Hai Duong province, Kinh Mon is situated near major economic centers in the north (Hai Phong, Quang Ninh). The town has a vital transportation network: Provincial Roads 389 and 389B, National Highway 17B connecting to National Highway 18 and National Highway 5… These are important transportation routes for Hai Duong province and the northern key economic region. As a gateway to the province, Kinh Mon is identified as one of the four dynamic urban centers of Hai Duong.
With its existing advantages and potential, Kinh Mon has focused its resources on building new rural areas. In 2017, Kinh Mon was the first district in Hai Duong province to achieve the new rural area status and the 38th new rural district in the whole country.
After achieving the new rural development goals, Kinh Mon district developed a plan outlining specific directions and solutions to transform it into a town. In September 2019, the Standing Committee of the National Assembly issued Resolution No. 768/NQ-UBTVQH14 on the establishment of Kinh Mon town and its wards and communes.
Building on the achievements, Kinh Mon town continues to focus its resources on developing and upgrading the town to meet the criteria of a type III urban area.
On average, over the three years from 2021-2023, the town's economic growth reached 9.39%, with a particularly high growth rate of 11.7% in 2024, exceeding the plan by 2%. The economic structure is shifting towards increasing the proportion of industrial, service, and trade sectors, while reducing the proportion of agricultural production. Average per capita income in 2024 is projected to reach 8.5 million VND/month, an increase of 0.83 million VND/month compared to 2023. The poverty rate in the town is projected to be 0.93%, a decrease of 0.42%… Cultural and social aspects are developing steadily, and the material and spiritual lives of the people are continuously improving...
Leverage for development
With the investment and support from the province, combined with local resources, the process of building Kinh Mon into a type III urban area has created important foundations that serve as a leverage for the overall socio-economic development of the entire town.
In addition to the existing transportation system, many projects have been and are being implemented in the area: the road connecting National Highway 17B with Dinh Bridge in Kinh Mon town; the road connecting National Highway 17B (Hai Duong province) with Provincial Road 352 (Hai Phong city) from National Highway 17B to Kinh Thuy River dike in Kinh Mon town; the Van road and bridge connecting National Highway 37 (Chi Linh city) with the access road to Trieu Bridge (Kinh Mon); the Kinh Mon River overpass and access road connecting the elevated interchange with National Highway 5; the road connecting the Kinh Mon River overpass with Provincial Road 389B; and the interchange connecting National Highway 17B with National Highway 5, the Hanoi - Hai Phong railway, and Hai Duong province.
These projects aim to gradually complete the regional transportation system according to the plan; expand the urban development space of Kinh Mon town; form a regional transportation axis connecting Hai Duong with Bac Ninh, Quang Ninh, and Hai Phong; attract investment, and create momentum for the socio-economic development of the town.
In particular, the interchange project connecting National Highway 17B with National Highway 5, the Hanoi-Hai Phong railway, and Hai Duong province not only connects the transportation network of Kinh Mon town with National Highway 5, Kim Thanh district, and neighboring districts, but also gradually completes the transportation route connecting the Hanoi-Hai Phong expressway with National Highway 18. This is of significant importance in expanding the socio-economic development space of Kinh Mon town in particular and Hai Duong province in general.
Over the years, the town of Kinh Mon has paid special attention to urban management and development. Kinh Mon has established six sub-areas in accordance with the general plan for the inner city area, including: the existing urban area, the gateway urban area, the central urban area, the northwestern industrial urban area, the ecological urban area, and the western industrial urban area, aiming to expand the town's urban space. The locality has implemented investments to complete the infrastructure system of new urban areas, and developed rural planning for suburban areas, creating a foundation for urban development in the coming years.
Kinh Mon currently has four industrial clusters – Long Xuyen, Duy Tan, Phu Thu, and Hiep Son – which are largely fully occupied; and four more industrial clusters have been established: An Phu, Thang Long, That Hung, and Quang Trung. Along with the comprehensive development of infrastructure in these industrial clusters, Kinh Mon is gradually transforming the technology of existing factories, especially construction material factories, to minimize environmental pollution. The goal is to attract high-tech, modern, and sustainable industrial production sectors.
In particular, Kinh Mon town is the first locality in Hai Duong province to implement the Project to build a logistics service center, port, oil and gas storage facility, and commercial service area, with a scale of 50 hectares and a total investment of 1,400 billion VND. The project, implemented in Minh Hoa commune, is significant for developing the province's logistics service industry, transforming the economic structure, and increasing budget revenue.
In agriculture, alongside traditional products such as onions, garlic, cassava, and glutinous rice, the town is orienting its agricultural development towards a new direction – experiential and organic farming – right in the Bach Dang commune area.
To maximize its existing tourism potential, Kinh Mon has completed a planning project for the conservation, restoration, and rehabilitation of the An Phu - Kinh Chu - Nham Duong complex, a special national historical and scenic site covering 1,800 hectares. The town also boasts two historical sites, Nham Duong Pagoda and Kinh Chu Cave, which are included in the dossier for the Yen Tu - Vinh Nghiem - Con Son - Kiet Bac complex submitted to UNESCO for recognition as a World Heritage Site. This is an important foundation for Kinh Mon to further develop its cultural, historical, and spiritual tourism.
In the coming period, the Party Committee, government, and people of Kinh Mon town will continue to strive to realize the goal of transforming the town into a city directly under the provincial administration before 2030.
On September 16, 2024, the Ministry of Construction issued Decision No. 858/QD-BXD recognizing Kinh Mon town, Hai Duong province, as a type III urban area.
On December 11, 2024, the President of Vietnam decided to award the Second Class Labor Order to the Party Committee, government, and people of Kinh Mon town. This is an important milestone in the development process and the result of tireless efforts, as well as a great encouragement and motivation for the Party Committee, government, and people of Kinh Mon town.
