Sesko has shown improvement compared to the beginning of the season. |
Manchester United continues to face a dilemma in attack, and in Nicky Butt's view, the solution doesn't lie with Benjamin Sesko. The former Red Devils midfielder believes the Old Trafford club needs a proven center forward, rather than continuing to place faith in inconsistent talents.
Sesko's form has shown signs of improvement since the beginning of the year. He has scored 8 goals in his last 11 games, including 4 in the last 6 Premier League rounds. This improvement coincides with a change in the coaching staff as Michael Carrick took over the team.
However, according to Nicky Butt, those positive signs are not enough to confirm that Sesko is the long-term solution. He believes the 22-year-old striker still lacks experience and is not ready for the pressure of the Champions League.
Butt's viewpoint is based on the fact that MU has repeated mistakes with young strikers, most notably Rasmus Hojlund. Instead, Butt suggests Victor Osimhen as a more suitable target.
The Nigerian striker, currently playing for Galatasaray, is highly regarded by Butt for his speed, strength, and diverse goal-scoring ability. He emphasized the practical aspect of transfers, stating that MU needs to pursue players who are both quality and affordable.
According to Butt, pursuing overly expensive targets could be a waste of time for the team. Meanwhile, Osimhen possesses many of the necessary qualities for a top striker, from his off-the-ball movement and finishing ability to his aerial prowess.
Sesko joined Manchester United from RB Leipzig for £73.7 million in the summer transfer window. However, the Slovenian striker's start was not smooth. He only scored two goals in his first 17 appearances in all competitions and faced much criticism, particularly after his missed penalty that led to United's elimination from the Carabao Cup by Grimsby.
