Like a familiar rhythm of breathing.
In Buon Ma Thuot, people don't ask each other "Want to go for a drink?" but always invite: "Let's have coffee!". This invitation comes naturally, like breathing, opening up conversations ranging from casual acquaintances to close friendships.

| Enjoying coffee - a simple cultural tradition of the people of Buon Ma Thuot. |
People in Buon Ma Thuot drink coffee at any time of day, whether it's early morning before work, midday when they stop somewhere to rest, or even in the evening for dates… The people of this mountain town like to spend time sitting together, chatting, leisurely sipping coffee; or simply sitting alone, watching the people go by, to calm down, enjoy, and contemplate.
Here, it seems that coffee has permeated every aspect of daily life. You can find images of elderly people leisurely reading newspapers while enjoying a cup of coffee, young people chatting animatedly, or farmers discussing agricultural product prices.
Mr. Le Phan Hoang (Buon Ma Thuot ward) shared his habit: “For me, enjoying coffee isn't just about the taste, but also the feeling I get from sitting in a suitable space. I like to drink coffee early in the morning or late in the afternoon. Those are two times when the pace of life is slow enough for me to observe everything around me.”
For Luu Hoang Long (Buon Ma Thuot ward), a content creator on the TikTok platform, newly opened cafes always hold a special appeal. They are places where he can both work and indulge his passion for exploring unique spaces, stories, and experiences that each owner offers. However, hidden behind the dynamic image of a young, tech-savvy person is a soul that cherishes old values. Long shares that he always prefers simple, traditional Vietnamese filter coffee. His favorite space isn't a glamorous place, but sometimes just a corner of the sidewalk. There, sipping a rich cup of coffee, watching the passersby, and immersing himself in the simple sounds is how he most clearly feels the intimate rhythm of life.
Proud and inspiring…
People in Buon Ma Thuot are known for being "picky" when it comes to enjoying coffee. Good coffee must be pure, with a rich, distinctive flavor, a clean bitterness followed by a deep, sweet aftertaste, and a distinct aroma. Building upon this traditional, rich bitterness, creativity is strongly demonstrated through unique variations such as creamy egg coffee and strong salted coffee, pleasing both locals and tourists, both domestic and international.
Besides satisfying taste preferences, the ambiance is also a distinctive feature that constitutes this cultural aspect. Buon Ma Thuot has an incredibly diverse "ecosystem" of coffee shops. These can include iconic spaces like the World Coffee Museum, garden cafes, eco-friendly experiential farm models, and also rustic, unpretentious sidewalk cafes nestled under the shade of ancient trees.
