The coffee seedling market started to become bustling more than two months ago. People from all over the province have been visiting seedling suppliers to inquire about quality and prices. Many customers have placed orders for seedlings, waiting until planting day, due to concerns that prices will skyrocket during the planting season.
Ms. Tran Thi Phuong, owner of Phuc Phuong seedling nursery in Duc Lieu commune, Bu Dang district, said: “This year, coffee growers are much more interested in coffee than in previous years. At the beginning of the season, from January and February, even while we were preparing the land and waiting for the rain, many people came to buy seedlings, place orders, or inquire about prices. Therefore, the number of coffee seedlings imported to our nursery in recent days has doubled compared to last year. To date, we have imported more than 50,000 coffee seedlings of various types.”
The owner of Phuc Phuong seedling nursery (in red shirt), Duc Lieu commune, shares his thoughts on the coffee seedling market in 2025.
Currently, the price of coffee seedlings is fluctuating between 19,000 and 20,000 VND per seedling. Compared to the 2024 planting season, the price has increased by 5,000-6,000 VND per seedling. The price is likely to increase further during the planting season.
Explaining the reason for the soaring price and high demand for coffee seedlings, many seedling suppliers in the province believe it is due to the sharp increase in the price of coffee beans for the 2024 harvest, the increase in intercropping land, and farmers renovating old coffee plantations…
Mr. Le Quang Hung, residing in Hamlet 7, Duc Lieu Commune, Bu Dang District, said: "In 2023, the people in Hamlet 7 mainly planted durian, but this year many households have switched to growing coffee. My family has been intercropping coffee for the past three years. Coffee beans are currently fetching good prices, so I will continue to plant about 700 more trees."

Currently, the dwarf green variety and Thien Truong are two coffee varieties that many people order. Of these, the dwarf green variety is more in demand due to its yield and quality.
As a supplier of coffee seedlings to farmers in Duc Lieu, Bom Bo, and Dak Nhau communes (Bu Dang district) and several other districts and towns in the province, Ms. Phuc Phuong said: "In the past few years, dwarf green coffee has been the most sought-after product compared to other coffee varieties currently sold in stores. Especially this year, the demand for dwarf green coffee seedlings has increased significantly."
Mr. Pham Van Minh from Xuan Hiep village, Tho Son commune, Bu Dang district, said: “Dwarf green coffee has many advantages. The plant has a strong root system, develops many horizontal and branch branches, the branches are large and strong, resilient and have good growth potential. Flowers and fruits cover the entire plant from the trunk to the tips of the branches. Dwarf green coffee fruits are large, with thin skin, and ripen uniformly. If there is enough irrigation, 1 hectare of dwarf green coffee intercropped in a cashew orchard can yield more than 5 tons. The larger the plant, the higher the yield.”
Due to the increasing demand from the public, coffee seedlings at nurseries are currently in short supply. Therefore, seedling suppliers and farmers need to be extremely cautious to avoid importing or purchasing poor-quality seedlings. They should choose reputable nurseries and establishments to avoid significant losses later on.
