The singer returns with a powerful new look.

Many singers have returned after a long hiatus, and almost all of them have reinvented themselves in this comeback.

When Bui Anh Tuan returned to the music scene with Trung Quan with the song "I Do" for Valentine's Day 2025, audiences were surprised and excited. This was because Bui Anh Tuan had seemingly disappeared from the scene for quite some time.

A promise made... 10 years ago

"I Do" is the first musical collaboration between Trung Quân and Bùi Anh Tuấn after numerous duets on stage. This song also paved the way for the two singers' EP, BUI. Not only did they demonstrate their appeal through their distinctive voices, but the maturity in their performance and refined technique created a unique mark for the song. In particular, the vocal harmony at the climax between Trung Quân and Bùi Anh Tuấn delivered explosive moments, perfectly capturing the spirit of the song.

"The upcoming MV 'I Do' or EP BUI is not simply a musical product, but also marks a promise made over 10 years ago, when Trung Quân and Bùi Anh Tuấn first became close friends. Both promised each other and their audience that they would collaborate on an official product, not just duets on stage," Trung Quân shared.

Trung Quân further revealed that initially, they only intended to create a single musical product, the song "I Do". However, after working together, both Trung Quân and Bùi Anh Tuấn had many new ideas. They decided to collaborate on a music EP called BUI, containing a total of four songs, which has just been released.

Returning after a long hiatus, singer Ho Quynh Huong calls herself a "young singer" and hopes for audience support and encouragement. In her position, the title "young singer" is just a joke on her comeback after more than 10 years away from singing. But even as a joke, that "young" image is true in many ways. Looking at the market as a whole, many younger generations of listeners may not know or rarely listen to Ho Quynh Huong's music. She has been "hibernating" for too long, so upon her return, everything is fresh, from the way she produces and promotes her products to the race on YouTube's charts and trending topics…

Singer Phuong Thanh is also like that; she always calls herself a young singer with the enthusiasm of a true young person. Phuong Thanh's advantage over other young singers is perhaps her experience and decades of professional practice. And also the inherent fame that she and singer Ho Quynh Huong already possess. But that doesn't mean everything will be easier.

Find ways to reinvent yourself.

The talented contestants of "Brothers Overcoming a Thousand Obstacles 2024" all admit that they have changed a great deal since participating in the program. The changes in their personalities or finding the motivation to return to their artistic passion are nothing compared to the fact that each of them has found a new opportunity to make a comeback. While a few individuals (very few) have retained their appeal, the majority of names have faded from fame after a long period of making an impression in the music market. Therefore, the rebirth of many talented individuals is truly invaluable.

To be fair, it's difficult for any individual to have shows with tens of thousands of viewers like the "Brother Overcoming a Thousand Obstacles 2024" live concert. Putting the show aside, each talented individual will struggle with their comeback, facing numerous obstacles. Not everyone is capable of adapting to the unpredictable changes in the Vietnamese music market and audience tastes. But one thing is certain: if they remain determined and truly diligent, their return after a period of dormancy will have many advantages.

Singer Hoang Hai said he doesn't mind that few young audiences recognize or know him, as it's been over 10 years since he last appeared on screen. After participating in season 2 of "The Mask Singer," Hoang Hai released the music video "The Only Answer" and will continue working on other projects in 2025, maintaining regular activity. "Only hard work will make many young audiences remember me," singer Hoang Hai expressed.

Singer Ngoc Khue, famous for songs like "Chuon Chuon Ot" (Dragonfly), "Cap Ba La" (Three-Leaf Clover), "Ba Toi" (My Grandmother), and "Giot Suong Bay Len" (Dewdrop Flying Up), will also return this year with a new album, a collaboration with producer Huy Ngo. She revealed that this album won't be a complete redesign, but rather a continuation of her previous unfinished works. To keep up with contemporary music trends, the singer will write lyrics and rap in some of the songs.

Upon their return, once-famous singers seek to reinvent themselves, adapting to market trends. For example, Phạm Khánh Hưng, after marking his comeback with covers of past hits, recently sang his own original composition after 15 years. In the song "Turn Left, Turn Right," Phạm Khánh Hưng introduced a collaboration with a young rapper to give his music a fresh, non-boring feel.

Singer Phuong Linh (from the Sao Mai Diem Hen singing competition) returns after a long hiatus and has become a popular cover singer of Chinese songs with Vietnamese lyrics. Similarly, Dang Khoi returns with his album "Grandpa Visual," which includes 8 songs. According to the male singer, the album title is a humorous way of talking about his age, suggesting that even at nearly 50, he still looks young. Khoi confided: "After stopping singing for so long, I thought my passion had cooled down. But thanks to the program 'Brother Overcoming a Thousand Obstacles,' I was able to stand on stage and hear the cheers of the audience. I know my love for music is still there."

Composer Duong Khac Linh believes that for singers who have taken a long break from their careers, the decision to return is not simple because the Vietnamese music market has changed. During their absence, many new artists have emerged and received media attention. Along with that, a new generation of audiences has also formed with modern and fresh tastes.
