Ingredients of lipstick

Oil

Oils have the effect of moisturizing, creating smoothness and dissolving colorants or other soluble substances in lipstick. The most commonly used oil in lipstick production is castor oil. Colorant

Colorants help give color to lipstick and are divided into two types: inorganic colorants and organic colorants.

Organic colors such as beetroot red, Anthocyanins, Lactoflavin are soluble, easy to disperse evenly but cause color smudging. Therefore, they are often combined together to create lipsticks that do not smudge but have even color.

Preservatives

Antioxidants

Antioxidants are added to prevent oils and waxes from going rancid. Some common antioxidants are vitamin E (tocopherol), BHA or BHT.

Flavoring agent

Artificial fragrances are often used to mask the scent of chemical ingredients in oils, waxes and colorants in lipstick. People with dry, chapped lips should limit the use of scented lipsticks because they can cause skin irritation.
