Having been involved in orange cultivation for over 20 years, this is the season with the highest yield for Ms. Phan Thi Hien. With over 1,300 orange trees currently bearing fruit, Ms. Hien's family estimates a harvest of approximately 75 tons, an increase of about 15 tons compared to last year. At this time, the oranges have begun to ripen, and many traders are coming directly to the orchard to buy them at 50,000 VND/kg, about 20% higher than at the beginning of last year's season.

Ms. Hien shared: "If it weren't for the storms, our family's orange yield would have been even higher. This year is a leap year, so the selling period is longer, and I'm not in a hurry to sell everything; I'm only harvesting the ripe ones. I'll continue to take care of the trees so the oranges become sweeter and fetch a better price at the end of the year."
Amidst the joy of a bountiful orange harvest, the Tra Son Cooperative in Dong Loc commune recently participated in a live sales event on the Ha Tinh Review channel, organized by the Dong Loc Commune Youth Union. This is considered a new step in promoting the Xuan Hoa orange brand to consumers nationwide. With its 4-star OCOP certification, the Xuan Hoa oranges from the Tra Son Cooperative secured many orders during the live stream at a price of 70,000 VND/kg.

Mr. Nguyen Xuan Hoa, a member of the Tra Son Cooperative, said: “The cooperative currently links 69 households, cultivating over 100 hectares of oranges, including 26 hectares of crisp oranges that are already yielding. This year, the average yield for each household is 12-15 tons, higher than last year. Through the livestream, we learned a new way to promote and sell our products more effectively.”
According to statistics, after the merger, Dong Loc commune has more than 1,000 households growing citrus fruits, including Thượng Lộc crisp oranges, with a total area of over 500 hectares; concentrated in the villages of Anh Hung, Thanh My, Nam Phong, Son Binh, Khe Tho, and Trai Tieu. This year, both yield and selling price have increased. Right from the beginning of the season, oranges were purchased by traders directly from the orchards at prices ranging from 30,000 to 50,000 VND/kg depending on quality. For products grown intensively using organic methods, the selling price reached 70,000 to 90,000 VND/kg.

Mr. Phan Van Son from Anh Hung village (Dong Loc commune) shared: “This year, traders came to buy quite early, and the prices were attractive, so my family decided to sell the entire orchard of over 1 hectare. Regular crisp oranges sell for 40-45 thousand VND/kg, while the best quality ones sometimes reach 50 thousand VND/kg.”
According to orange growers in Thuong Loc, despite being affected by storms and heavy rains this year, meticulous care and production adhering to food safety and hygiene standards have resulted in higher orange yields compared to last year. To ensure clean produce, farmers use bio-fertilizers, manure, and biological pest control methods. As a result, Thuong Loc oranges have a distinctive aroma, taste, and sweetness, helping people increase their income, escape poverty sustainably, and achieve legitimate wealth.

Mr. Nguyen Xuan Dieu, Head of the Economic Department of Dong Loc Commune People's Committee, informed: "According to initial surveys, the total orange production in the commune is estimated at over 2,000 tons, higher than in previous years. Orange trees currently bring in tens of billions of dong in economic value, becoming a key crop helping local people escape poverty and providing a decent income. This year, the orange harvest is both abundant and the prices are good, so the people are very happy."
This year's orange harvest not only brought joy with a bountiful crop and good prices to the people of Dong Loc, but also affirmed the right direction in developing commercial agriculture linked to consumption and digital transformation in agriculture. As the Thuong Loc orange brand becomes increasingly established in the market, people are more confident in investing, expanding their scale, and moving towards clean and sustainable production to gradually increase their income.
