Russian broadcaster RT, citing information from several Telegram channels, reported that a 3-ton FAB-3000 bomb, equipped with a guidance module, struck a Ukrainian command center in the New York settlement of Donetsk, resulting in the loss of at least 60 soldiers and 4 vehicles in Kyiv.
Additionally, one of the other articles stated that the building hit by the bomb had "vanished without a trace."
According to the Russian side, the Ukrainian command center is believed to belong to the 1st Mechanized Battalion of the 41st Mechanized Brigade of Ukraine in eastern Donetsk. The Ukrainian and Russian Ministries of Defense have not yet commented on this information. Meanwhile, RT also stated that they could not independently verify the video.
Previously, Russia reportedly used the FAB-3000 bomb for the first time in the town of Liptsy when Russia advanced towards Kharkiv two weeks ago. Russian military experts assess that the FAB-3000 bomb is capable of destroying even the most fortified structures. According to them, with its new technology, this bomb can strike with high accuracy.
The FAB-3000 is a conventional bomb developed by the Soviet Union after World War II, each packed with 1,400 kg of high explosive, believed to be sufficient to destroy even the most fortified structures. The glide bomb version is equipped with an integrated guidance module and lifting fins (UMPK), allowing it to be dropped from a distance and increasing the accuracy of the strike.
Defense News writes that in recent months, Russian forces have used FAB-3000s against Ukrainian soldiers on the front lines, and currently "Ukraine has very little capability to respond to enemy glide bomb attacks."
The New York settlement first appeared on maps in the mid-19th century. There are currently several different theories about the origin of this American-style name for a location in Ukraine.
