According to psychologist Duong Thi Thu Thanh, who works at Viet Soft Skills Co., Ltd., when parents fulfill all of their children's requests without setting limits or rules, they inadvertently create an environment lacking challenges and opportunities for children to learn. When parents provide everything for their children without any effort, children easily confuse wants with needs.

This can lead children to develop the misconception that happiness depends on material possessions, resulting in feelings of dissatisfaction when they don't achieve everything they desire.

For children, when all their needs are met without effort, they may develop the notion that a person's value depends on the quantity and quality of their possessions.

This can lead to unhealthy competitive thinking and the misconception that all problems can be solved with money. Children who receive everything without effort tend to look down on everything around them. They may become irresponsible in taking care of their personal belongings and indifferent when things are broken or lost.

Overindulgence leads children to believe they don't need to follow rules. When rules aren't consistently enforced, children may develop a habit of breaking rules and showing disrespect to others.

Ms. N., a parent in Thanh Khe Tay ward, Thanh Khe district, shared the difficulties of trying to raise her children in today's challenging environment. She said: "I once took my child to school, but my child refused to go into the classroom. I tried everything to persuade her, but to no avail; sometimes I had to take her home. I feel very worried."

Mr. H. (45 years old, residing in Hai Chau district) is very worried because his 9th-grade daughter doesn't know how to do any housework. Furthermore, when she goes to school or out, she's shy, hesitant to express her opinions, and doesn't know how to integrate with others, isolating herself from everyone. "I encourage her to play sports or hang out with friends, but she refuses and is very withdrawn. I'm just worried she might become depressed," Mr. H. shared.

According to psychologist Duong Thi Thu Thanh, many children lack independence and the ability to face challenges. If parents continue to spoil their children without setting limits, the children will have difficulty adapting to the social environment and developing essential life skills.

In today's information-driven environment, to avoid the negative consequences of overindulgence, parents should set clear limits, establish rules and expectations for their children; encourage independence, allow children to solve problems and make decisions on their own, and guide them in financial management, personal responsibility, and communication skills.

In addition, parents need to change their family habits, always pay attention to their children's activities, and create a safe environment for children to experience both success and failure so they can learn from it.

Parents can help their children develop into confident, independent, and responsible individuals—ready to face life's challenges.

Schools also need to create more opportunities for practical experience, such as organizing extracurricular activities and hands-on sessions, so that children can apply the skills they learn to life, confidently face challenges, and develop holistically.
