According to the Hanoi City Police, booking travel accommodations online is a popular trend among families during the upcoming summer vacation. With just a few searches, customers can quickly find numerous hotel locations, images, and related service prices on social media. Taking advantage of this demand, scammers have created fake Facebook pages or hotel websites to trick victims into transferring deposit money.
When tourists contact them, these individuals will communicate via Messenger or Zalo to introduce the services that the tourists are interested in. They will offer services at extremely low prices (30-50% cheaper than the market average), leading tourists to mistakenly believe that the individuals are owners or employees of the hotel, villa, or homestay.
To gain the trust of tourists, the perpetrators also take photos, record videos , and even livestream the resort for guests to see. Once the room rental price is agreed upon, the perpetrators request a deposit of 30-50% of the rental value to defraud the victims.
To prevent fraud, the Hanoi City Police recommend that citizens carefully research information when choosing online hotel booking services. They should choose travel agencies with full legal status or reputable hotel and hotel booking websites.
In particular, avoid transactions with individuals whose identity and address are unclear; carefully check hotel information and call the hotel to verify before transferring any deposit. Be wary of websites advertising unusually discounted hotel rooms during holidays, especially those offering travel packages at prices lower than the market average.
