Phan Dinh Phung Stadium is located on the "golden land" in the city center with 4 street frontages: Pasteur, Nguyen Dinh Chieu, Nam Ky Khoi Nghia and Vo Van Tan.

The Office of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee has just announced the conclusion of Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Phan Van Mai at the meeting of the Working Group for the construction project of Phan Dinh Phung Sports Center, District 3 (abbreviated as Phan Dinh Phung Stadium). Accordingly, the Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee agreed to terminate and cancel the implementation of the Phan Dinh Phung Stadium construction project under the public-private partnership method (BT contract).

The project had an investment level announced in 2008 of 988 billion VND. By 2013, the project's capital increased to 1,352.7 billion VND, and in 2016 it was adjusted to 1,954 billion VND.

Phan Dinh Phung Gymnasium has been in operation since 1985, but despite many repairs, it has gradually deteriorated over time. Traces of the basketball court still remain after the gymnasium was dismantled in 2017.

At the corner behind the main gate on Vo Van Tan street there is a small security tent.

The sidewalk around the project fence shows signs of damage. Garbage and garbage trucks are parked right at the side gate of the project on Vo Van Tan Street, causing loss of urban beauty.

The outside of this trillion-dollar project is still fenced off, surrounded by about 3m high corrugated iron, along with images of the investor's stadium project.

In parallel with the request to terminate the BT contract that the Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee has stated, recently, the Department of Culture and Sports also reported to the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee on the pre-feasibility study of the investment project to build Phan Dinh Phung Stadium.

The project is expected to be invested on a land area of ​​14,417 m2, construction density of 50%, land use coefficient of 2.0. The project has a design scale of 3.5 basements and 3 floors above ground, height of 28 m, total maximum construction floor area of ​​59,679 m2.

Phan Dinh Phung Stadium has a total investment of 1,850 billion VND, the capital source is taken from the city budget. After completion, this stadium will be a place for training and competing in 13 sports such as basketball, volleyball, badminton... with a scale of about 5,000 seats. Regarding the project progress, the Department of Culture and Sports said it will be implemented in stages and is expected to complete the project and put into use in 2028.
