On October 17th, the Vietnam Coast Guard Command (VCG) held a conference to disseminate and implement the plan "Continuing the intensive campaign to resolutely combat and prevent and put an end to the situation of fishing vessels violating illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing regulations from October 15th to November 15th, 2025."
Major General Vu Trung Kien, Deputy Commander of Law Enforcement of the Vietnam Coast Guard, chaired the conference at the Hanoi venue. Also attending the conference via online connection were representatives from ministries, agencies, Coast Guard regions, representatives of coastal local authorities, and relevant functional forces.

The conference continued to launch a vigorous campaign to combat and resolutely prevent and put an end to the situation of fishing vessels violating regulations on illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing.
Over the past period, the Coast Guard agencies and units have closely coordinated with cooperating forces, functional agencies of ministries, departments, and coastal localities to comprehensively and decisively implement tasks and solutions to combat IUU fishing. This has effectively minimized the number of Vietnamese fishing vessels violating foreign waters and being apprehended and prosecuted by foreign authorities.
However, fishing vessels still employ sophisticated tactics to violate IUU (Illegal, Unreported, and Unregulated) fishing regulations. According to statistics from the Vietnam Coast Guard, from the beginning of 2025 to the present, 25 Vietnamese fishing vessels have violated regulations on illegal fishing and trading of seafood in foreign waters, resulting in their arrest and prosecution by foreign authorities; 50 fishing vessels that seriously violated IUU fishing regulations have been seized by the Coast Guard and brought ashore for processing.

Major General Vu Trung Kien, Deputy Commander of Law Enforcement of the Vietnam Coast Guard, delivered a speech at the conference.
In the coming period, the Vietnam Coast Guard Command has set forth several specific contents and tasks. The focus is on the decisive and flexible implementation of patrol, inspection, and control measures and plans in maritime areas, especially in overlapping and border maritime areas; concentrating leadership, direction, and organization of coordinated and decisive deployment of forces to prevent and put an end to IUU fishing violations by fishing vessels. In particular, it will strictly control fishing vessels that lose VMS signal connection, fishing vessels that remove or send VMS equipment, and fishing vessels that cross the border into foreign waters to operate…
The units are focusing on strengthening propaganda work against IUU fishing through new, creative, and effective forms and content of communication suitable to the actual conditions of each unit, in order to warn and deter vessel owners and fishermen.
