Every year from February to August is clam harvesting season. Traders hire laborers to harvest clams according to the tide. When the sun sets and the tide recedes, the workers prepare their personal belongings and head to the beach: rakes, raincoats, headlamps, drinking water… essential items for them. The group of workers then sets off, traveling 5km to the clam huts. When the sea recedes completely, around midnight, the workers begin harvesting. Some rake, some gather, some wash, some sort, some pack – everyone does their assigned task. After 4 a.m., when the tide rises, everyone loads the clams onto the boats for the traders. The workday ends quickly, and they head home before dawn.

Clam harvesting is also considered a traditional occupation of the fishermen in this coastal area, preserved for generations. Clam harvesting provides a stable income, so many women in the coastal region participate in this work every day. Thus, the daily lives of the people here blend with the sound of the waves. Tomorrow, when the tide recedes, a new livelihood begins at the estuary.
