According to MacRumors , while USB-C offers some advantages over Lightning, a new rumor suggests that the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus models may not benefit from faster data transfer speeds compared to the previous technology.
There will be data transfer speed limits on USB-C for the iPhone 15.
This detail was shared by user Majin Bu on X, who stated that the USB-C cable included in the iPhone 15 box is actually limited to USB 2.0 data transfer speeds of 480 Mbps, the same as Lightning.
Conversely, earlier rumors suggested that the two iPhone 15 Pro models would offer higher USB-C data transfer speeds. Analyst Ming-chi Kuo claims that the iPhone 15 Pro models will support "at least" USB 3.2 or Thunderbolt 3. For comparison, the iPad Pro has a Thunderbolt port for speeds up to 40 Gbps, while the basic iPad with its USB-C port is limited to just 480 Mbps.
With higher-specified data transfer speeds, the iPhone 15 Pro models can transfer video and other file types much faster than the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus.
The report also added that each iPhone 15 will come with a braided USB-C charging cable in the box that is thicker (i.e., more durable) and 50% longer than the Lightning cable included with current iPhone models. These cables are also rumored to come in colors that match the iPhone models they come with, which are expected to be black, white, gold, blue, and orange.
