Since July 1st, commercial banks have implemented Decision No. 2345 of the State Bank of Vietnam, requiring the authentication of electronic transactions using biometric methods. This is a crucial step towards the use of online systems, digitalization, and digital transformation to create convenience for customers.
However, over the past two days, users of online banking have encountered a series of errors related to biometric authentication, affecting their transaction processes.
Speaking with Lao Dong newspaper, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Thuong Lang, a senior lecturer at the National Economics University, expressed that creating a new regulation without guarantee conditions or a testing mechanism is one of the reasons leading to difficulties in applying technological transformation.
"I believe a pilot period of about 3-4 months is needed to test the software, applications, or development, because current platforms have very high advantages," said Associate Professor Dr. Lang.
Given the continuous errors occurring in customer transactions, temporarily pausing the conversion process to adjust the system is necessary.
Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Thuong Lang stated that implementing changes related to digital transformation requires building digital ecosystems because they possess high reliability and operate stably and efficiently. Banks need to cooperate to create a synchronized and systematic digital ecosystem.
Associate Professor Dr. Lang added that, in addition to technical issues related to information verification, banks also need to upgrade their information security technology when applying biometric authentication features.
Biometrics involves confidential information related to each individual's privacy. When a regulatory body such as a bank receives customer information, it requires strict legal regulations to manage it and appropriate sanctions to address violations.
"The best solution right now is to strengthen the information security system. If customers' personal information is leaked, it can cause damage and risks to them," said Associate Professor Dr. Lang.
