Casio's product is not only multifunctional but also designed to celebrate the company's 50th anniversary in the digital watch field. The CRW-001-1JR is expected to be available in Japan from December onwards at a price of 19,800 yen (approximately $128).
Casio's new watch features a polished stainless steel case and bezel.
The unusual design of Casio smartwatches
Despite its compact size, this Casio smartwatch features a classic 6-segment LCD display showing hours, minutes, and seconds. Additionally, the CRW-001-1JR incorporates three function buttons for easy access to extra features such as displaying the date, time in a different time zone, and a stopwatch. Notably, the watch's display has a backlight, and the alarm function will flash instead of sounding.
This product operates on a single battery, is water-resistant, and offers up to two years of use. Casio states that the battery is also easily replaceable when needed. To ensure design precision, the CRW-001-1JR is manufactured using a powder metal injection molding process, resulting in a uniform and refined product.
The non-adjustable size of the watch prompted Casio to incorporate a spacer to fit smaller fingers.
Unlike Timex watches with elastic straps, the CRW-001-1JR has a fixed 10.5mm size according to US standards. However, Casio has provided some inserts to improve the fit for those with smaller fingers. For those with larger fingers, they will have to find another way to use it or simply purchase a different product.
Last year, Casio introduced a collection of ring watches inspired by the company's iconic digital watch designs from the past 50 years. However, these models were not functional. The launch of the CRW-001-1JR marks a new step for Casio in developing truly functional ring watches.
