According to the original schedule, the Vietnam U17 team was to have a training match with Bac Ninh club this afternoon (March 5th) at the Vietnam Youth Football Center. However, the plan has been drastically changed. PVF U17 has been chosen to replace Bac Ninh club as the "sparring partner" for the Vietnam U17 team.
Coach Cristiano Roland stated that Bac Ninh club recently changed its coaching staff. Therefore, the team from the National Second Division cannot participate in the match.
As a training match, the game between Vietnam U17 and PVF U17 consisted of three 30-minute halves. Coach Roland experimented with various playing styles using all 34 players. Vietnam U17 won 3-0 thanks to goals from Duc Nhat, Anh Kiet, and Hong Phong.
Despite not scoring, Vietnamese-American player Thomas Mai Veeren still received praise. The Vietnam Football Federation's website commented: "Thomas Mai Veereen had the opportunity to showcase his skills for most of the first half and demonstrated great effort and determination."
Vietnamese-American player Thomas Mai Veeren (number 33) played in the first half.
"The Vietnam U17 team has only been training for two days, and some players are joining the training camp for the first time. Therefore, the team still has many things to improve to achieve the goals set by the coaching staff. The connection between the players is also not yet good, so we still have a lot to do ahead," assessed the head coach of the Vietnam U17 team.
Coach Roland stated that despite changing the opponent from the original plan, this training match still met the requirements of the Vietnam U17 team. The Brazilian coach needed a real match to understand the strengths and weaknesses of the players and make improvements before entering the 2025 AFC U17 Championship finals.
"Next, we will discuss with the players what needs to be improved. I understand that the team still has many areas that need improvement. The Vietnam U17 team achieved the goals set in today's match."
The coaching staff will try to motivate the players to integrate as quickly as possible and understand the coach's ideas. Players who grasp this and meet the requirements best will be selected. After only two training sessions and one match, the Vietnam U17 team still has a lot to do," said Coach Roland.
