Early morning of May 4, Arsenal lost 1-2 to Bournemouth at home in round 35 of the Premier League. Arsenal's ambition to win the runner-up position was shaken when the team was only 3 points ahead of Man City.
Odegaard was the subject of much criticism for his poor performance in the match. He completed only 20 of his 27 passes, his lowest tally in a match this season.
Some Gunners fans have called for Odegaard to be dropped from the starting line-up for the crucial Champions League second leg against PSG at the Parc des Princes next week. Some fans have even called for the Norwegian to be stripped of the captaincy due to his lacklustre performance.
Mark Lawrenson, who won five Championship titles and a Champions League with Liverpool in the 1980s, also publicly criticised Odegaard, saying: "He should be stripped of the captaincy so he can concentrate on his performances on the pitch. We all know Martin is a good player, but he's had a six-out-of-10 season."
Mark Lawrenson believes manager Mikel Arteta should consider making Declan Rice Arsenal captain. "Rice was captain at West Ham. I would give him the armband as a way to get Odegaard back on his feet," the former Liverpool man added.
Arsenal must quickly regain their spirits before the away match against PSG in the middle of next week. In the first leg, the "Gunners" lost 0-1 at Emirates.
