(Dan Tri Newspaper) - After the Vietnamese national team successfully naturalized striker Nguyen Xuan Son (foreign name Rafaelson), many Southeast Asian fans have had mixed reactions.
Recently, FIFA agreed to allow naturalized striker Nguyen Xuan Son to play in the AFF Cup 2024, starting on December 20th. The appearance of the Brazilian-born player promises to significantly strengthen the Vietnamese national team.

In recent seasons, Nguyen Xuan Son has been the best striker in the V-League. Last season, he played a major role in helping Nam Dinh FC win the championship. This season, Nguyen Xuan Son continues to shine, scoring 9 goals in 10 matches for the club.
Following the successful naturalization of the 1997-born striker by the Vietnamese national team, many Southeast Asian fans have had mixed reactions.
Indonesian fan Bastian Triste wrote: "Get ready, the young Indonesian defenders will have to face this powerful striker."
A user named Han Yuno voiced their opposition: "I think there's no problem with using players of foreign origin, as long as they have ancestral ties to that country."
Don't feel ashamed, as long as you don't grant citizenship to players for free. Japan did that when they started their football revolution and rose to the top.

A fan named Yana Heryana also offered her perspective: "Each country has a different approach to the issue of naturalization. It's impossible to criticize when each football system also has different regulations and development strategies."
The use of naturalized players, whether they have Vietnamese ancestry or not, opens up opportunities for teams. Everyone has the right to be proud of their origins. I wish the Vietnamese national team good luck and continued strong development of Southeast Asian football."
Fan Pencit Ijo protested: "He has to live in Vietnam for 5 years because he is an immigrant of Brazilian origin. This player has no Vietnamese blood at all."
Jamie Egbert's account wrote: "Wishing the Vietnamese national team continued growth and strength. My best wishes from Indonesia."
Currently, the Vietnamese national team is training in South Korea. After returning, the team will be reinforced with players from Nam Dinh (currently participating in the AFC Cup). Nguyen Xuan Son is likely to be called up by coach Kim Sang Sik to participate in the 2024 AFF Cup.
