Ms. Danh Thi Giau, an ethnic minority woman in difficult circumstances in Co Do town, recently received support from the Co Do District Women's Union to build a "House of Love." Ms. Giau emotionally said: “My youngest son and his wife work far away and send money home every month to support my three grandchildren and me. However, due to unstable jobs, our family often struggles financially. Our house has been dilapidated for many years, but we haven't had the means to repair it. I'm so happy to receive financial support from the District Women's Union to build a new house in 2025.”
Activities supporting women's economic empowerment have been strengthened and qualitatively reformed towards comprehensive support, connecting the participation and collaboration of various sectors, levels, social resources, and the proactive involvement of members and women. Women's associations at all levels have facilitated loans from the Social Policy Bank to 3,056 households, creating conditions for women to develop their family economies; provided job counseling and placement services for 1,499 women; and launched 9 models and cooperatives such as "Women Picking Leeks," "Garment Processing," and "Household Service Groups," contributing to job creation and increased income for many women.
The Women's Union of O Mon District is one of the exemplary units in implementing and building models to support women's economic development associated with managing entrusted capital. In the first six months of 2025, the Union established 3 new models to support women's economic development with 72 members; to date, the entire district has 31 models with 583 members. Through these models, 2,275 local women have found employment, earning an average income of 3-4 million VND/person/month. In addition, policy credit capital has been disbursed smoothly and promptly, helping borrowers access capital for production, trading, livestock farming, and cultivation... increasing income and improving their lives. Specifically, the capital has created jobs for nearly 1,200 workers (including about 30 workers from poor and near-poor households).
Previously, Ms. Le Thi Cam's family in Long Hung ward, O Mon district, faced many difficulties. She received support from the Women's Union of the ward in applying for a loan from the Social Policy Bank to buy and sell vegetables and fruits. Ms. Cam shared: "Every day, I earn over 200,000 VND, saving up for my children's education. Besides that, in 2025, the Women's Union of the ward will help my husband and I build a 'House of Love' to stabilize our lives."
Along with caring for material well-being, the Women's Union at all levels promotes many activities, encouraging women to improve their health, contributing to the effective implementation of the emulation movement "Building the modern Can Tho woman - dynamic, creative, healthy, compassionate, loving family, loving homeland and country". Currently, 100% of grassroots Women's Union branches maintain at least one type of activity to encourage members and women to improve their knowledge, cultivate morality, and improve their health.
According to the Standing Committee of the Can Tho City Women's Union, all levels of the Union continue to build a stronger organization; paying attention to innovating the content and methods of operation, effectively implementing programs and projects to support women, and actively promoting the role of women in all fields.
