Disease screening for people in mountainous and island areas.
In mid-January, in Bac Khanh Vinh commune, the Ho Chi Minh City Heart Institute, in coordination with the Provincial Association for the Support of People with Disabilities, Poor Patients, and Children's Rights, organized a free medical check-up program for local residents. From early morning, hundreds of people were present to receive direct examinations from doctors and medical staff. The majority were elderly people and ethnic minorities who came to the program hoping for a comprehensive health check. Ms. Cao Thi Linh (over 70 years old, a Raglai woman) said that for many years she had frequently suffered from chest pain and fatigue, but lacked the means to travel far for examinations, only receiving treatment at the commune's health station. Hearing that skilled doctors from Ho Chi Minh City had come to the commune to examine the people, she was very happy. Everyone in the village hoped to have a health check-up so they could have peace of mind to celebrate Tet (Lunar New Year).

The team organizing the free medical check-up program, consisting of 45 doctors, nurses, and medical staff, examined over 250 people, measured blood pressure, tested blood sugar, performed electrocardiograms, echocardiograms, and screened for cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, respiratory illnesses, etc. Many suspected cases received treatment advice, had their records compiled for follow-up, and were promptly referred to higher-level facilities. Dr. Cao Van Ly, Deputy Head of the Khanh Binh Regional Multi-Specialty Clinic, said: "Due to limited access to specialized examinations, many people only discover their illnesses when they are already in advanced stages, and even many children with congenital heart disease have not been screened."

In early February, residents of Tri Nguyen Island (Nha Trang ward) were delighted when a free mobile medical examination program, organized by the Provincial Association for the Support of Disabled People, Poor Patients, and Children's Rights in coordination with the Vietnam-Korea International Multi-Specialty Clinic, was held there. Nearly 2,000 people received health check-ups right where they live, saving them the trouble of traveling by boat to the mainland. The program focused on screening for common illnesses in the elderly and children; suspected cases were referred for ultrasound, electrocardiogram, and blood tests. Ms. Kieu Thi Nhi (Tri Nguyen Island) shared: “Every time I go to the mainland for a medical examination, I have to leave early in the morning, which is time-consuming and costly. Now that a team of doctors has come to the island to examine me, I can get free ultrasounds, tests, and medicine. I am very happy and reassured.”
According to Mr. Le Thanh Duc, General Director of Vietnam-Korea International Hospital Joint Stock Company, the program organizes multi-specialty examinations with the aim of helping people screen for basic diseases early. This allows for appropriate monitoring and treatment, limiting dangerous complications.

In particular, during a medical examination in Bac Khanh Vinh commune, doctors from the Ho Chi Minh City Heart Institute discovered three cases of congenital heart disease in children. Immediately afterwards, the association mobilized benefactors to provide financial support for the children to travel to Ho Chi Minh City for specialized examinations. Mr. Le Huu Tho, Chairman of the Provincial Association for the Protection of Disabled People, Poor Patients, and Children's Rights, stated: “The Ho Chi Minh City Heart Institute has agreed to fully fund the surgical costs for the children with congenital heart disease. However, travel, accommodation, and post-operative care costs remain a significant burden for the families. The association will continue to call for community support to accompany the children throughout their treatment.”

These health check-up programs during Tet (Lunar New Year) contribute to raising awareness about healthcare for people in disadvantaged areas. This reduces the burden on the healthcare system and spreads a spirit of compassion and sharing, in line with the goals that the Provincial Association for the Support of People with Disabilities, Poor Patients, and Children's Rights has consistently pursued.
