Not writing about grand stories or dramatic events, the 200-page essay collection "Remembered Childhood Days" is woven from everyday memories, with small details but rich in images and emotions, able to connect and touch the common memory of "my childhood is..." of many generations of Vietnamese people.

It was the feeling of safety when sitting and falling asleep between dad and mom on the old motorbike, or snuggling into mom's raincoat like a small world but full of warm peace. Or "sharing the same fate" on windy days with kites, silly pranks, snacks, chatting about ghost stories or stories from heaven and earth... making the bond between siblings and friends become closer and more attached than ever.

The prose pages also have a musical quality - like a melody - the background music for a slow-motion film that evokes fascination. It brings us back to the nostalgic memories of the four beloved seasons of spring - summer - autumn - winter, to the fluttering emotions when the confession of love has not yet been said, or the shy eyes like sunlight through the leaves, and the innocent regrets like morning dew on the grass...

Each story is like an unchanging candy in a time capsule for readers to receive, the more they read, the more they see the precious things in life, the more they want to preserve and remember. Readers may be moved when reading these verses: “When will the old days come back/ When we were little, our mother took us to the fields/ Our father’s hands were chapped in winter/ He carried the whole rice field, the whole field on his back/ A handful of rice dipped in sesame salt/ Our childhood was absorbed in the sound of cicadas/ The buffalo lay chewing grass on the dike/ Someone played the flute, slowly in the countryside afternoon/ The years were full of ups and downs/ Suddenly my heart ached, searching for the old days” . And the author compares family affection to a symbolic image - “the softest blanket in the world” that will protect us through all the storms of life.

“The Days of Childhood” is not only a collection of essays rich in emotions but also conveys the message that: Peace does not lie in a distant place but lies in the memories deep within each person - it is still like a gentle flow in our souls. And please do not forget, there is a child inside us, who once lived carefree, loved and was loved, and dreamed beautiful dreams. That “child” has never disappeared from everyone’s heart, because each of us has had: “A childhood with emotions that we once embraced with the purest heart”.

Author Bui Van Anh, born in 1992, graduated with a major in Literature from the University of Social Sciences and Humanities - Vietnam National University, Hanoi, currently working in the field of content creation and advertising. With the pen name "Nguoi Viet Hoai Niem", he has been spreading the values of memories and original emotions through each word.
