The Dutch striker aims to beat Vietnam and Portugal.

Lieke Martens considers the Netherlands women's team's group in the 2023 World Cup to be very challenging. All the teams have improved. Therefore, Martens is determined to win against the two weaker opponents, Vietnam and Portugal.

" Portugal has had good results against strong teams. We've faced them before and they're not easy to beat. We know this is the most important match in the group stage. If we win this match, we hope to beat Vietnam as well to advance to the knockout round ," Martens shared.

Martens usually plays as a winger for the Netherlands national team.

The Netherlands are the reigning world runners-up. In Group E, besides Vietnam and Portugal, there is also the US national team, the defending champions. Martens was cautious when talking about this opponent.

" The last time we met them was at the Tokyo 2021 Olympics. We could have beaten them. I missed a penalty in regular time and then lost on penalties. It was really frustrating. Since then, they've played better, and so have we. The upcoming match between the two teams promises to be very exciting ," the 1992-born star assessed.

Lieke Martens is currently the number one star of Dutch women's football with 144 appearances and 58 goals. She won the FIFA The Best award in 2017 while playing for Barcelona. She has also won numerous major and minor titles with the Spanish national team, including 3 national league titles, 1 Champions League title, 4 Spanish Cup titles, and 2 Super Cup titles.

At the national team level, she won Euro 2017 with the Netherlands. The World Cup title is the only trophy missing from Lieke Martens' collection.

" If we win the championship, I will fulfill my dream. It's a tough challenge, but nothing is impossible. I will try my best to prepare and believe in my team, " Martens expressed.
