In a livestreamed event on March 25th, OpenAI demonstrated how users can use ChatGPT to edit images simply through conversations with the chatbot. For example, they can ask ChatGPT to create an image of a snail in a city and then add details such as a hat or change the background.

OpenAI states that ChatGPT can create better images when given clear input, supporting graphing and logo design for work purposes. Users can ask the chatbot to create menus, maps, or perform complex instructions regarding image layout.
Aiming to become a comprehensive application, OpenAI is integrating ChatGPT with features such as search, voice assistant, and video creation. These latest improvements help the product compete with other chatbots, including Elon Musk's Grok, while meeting the needs of both individuals and businesses.
However, ChatGPT's image creation feature is still incomplete, for example, it may contain spelling errors in images. According to OpenAI, these errors often occur if the user's prompts are not detailed enough. The AI also struggles to create small characters or letters outside the Latin alphabet.
According to CEO Sam Altman, ChatGPT will take about a minute to generate an image due to its higher level of detail. GPT-4o will replace DALL·E, becoming the default image generation model on ChatGPT, and will be available to all users, including ChatGPT Free, Plus, Team, and Pro.
OpenAI says that the advancements of GPT-4o – a model launched last year – were made possible by a team of “human coaches” who labeled the training data for the model.
However, the use of AI to create images remains controversial. Some artists fear these tools will "plagiarize" their work and threaten their livelihoods. OpenAI asserts that GPT-4o was trained using publicly available data and proprietary sources from partners such as Shutterstock.
