A four-story bar located on Van Cao Street, Ngo Quyen District, caught fire, trapping and killing three female employees.
At approximately 2 PM on May 12th, a fire broke out on the first floor and quickly spread throughout the 90-square-meter, four-story bar located at 144 Van Cao Street, Dang Giang Ward, Ngo Quyen District.
Because the bar was designed as a closed, tube-shaped building with only one front door, the fire spread rapidly, deforming the roller shutter door on the first floor. Smoke engulfed 3-4 neighboring shops, and residents hurriedly evacuated their goods.
At the time of the fire, there were no customers in the restaurant, only four female employees. They all climbed onto the fourth-floor balcony and shouted for help. One 21-year-old girl was rescued, but the other three were trapped by falling debris and had to turn back inside.
Seven fire trucks and dozens of firefighters continuously sprayed water from the front of the house. An ambulance was on standby outside. The section of Van Cao street was cordoned off to facilitate firefighting efforts.
By 3:30 PM, the fire was largely under control, and masked police officers took turns searching inside for trapped people. The bar owner and relatives of the victims gathered around, waiting for news.
By 6:30 PM, the bodies of three women, aged 18 to 21, from Hai Phong City, were recovered. Fire trucks and ambulances withdrew from the scene.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
The bar that caught fire was located on a central street in Hai Phong City, a street lined with restaurants, hotels, bars, and pubs, and home to many South Korean residents.
