Floods leave 42 people dead and missing, along with many damages

According to the Department of Dyke Management and Natural Disaster Prevention, Ministry of Agriculture and Environment and VNA reporters in localities, as of 8:30 a.m. on November 3, floods have killed or left missing 42 people, an increase of 2 people compared to November 2, including 37 dead, 5 missing, and 78 injured, an increase of 18 people compared to the morning of November 2. Along with that, floods have flooded and damaged 7,897 hectares of rice and crops, an increase of 2,590 hectares compared to November 2, and 64,356 livestock and poultry have died or been washed away.

The floods caused 103 houses to collapse and be swept away, an increase of 12 houses compared to November 2; 451 houses were damaged, an increase of 90 houses compared to November 2; 12,676 houses were flooded, a decrease of 3,906 houses compared to November 2.

There are currently 50 locations on national highways that are congested, including 24 national highway locations managed by the Ministry of Construction . In addition, there are 26 national highway locations managed by localities, including National Highways 15, 49B, 49C, 14E, 14H, 24C, and 40B.

The Hanoi - Ho Chi Minh City railway line has resumed operation. However, some trains are running slowly due to flooding. The floods have also caused 11.3km of canals to be eroded and damaged, and 1,950m of river banks and coastlines to be eroded.

In addition, 56 communes/wards are currently disconnected from the level 2 dedicated data transmission network due to power outages; 148 public network BTS stations are still out of contact in Da Nang.

In Hue city and Quang Ngai province, communications have been restored and are operating normally.

To overcome the consequences of natural disasters and ensure people's lives, General Secretary To Lam and the Central Working Group visited, gave gifts and encouraged the people of Quang Dien commune, Hue city - one of the most flooded areas of Hue city.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Environment requests ministries, branches and localities to strictly implement the Prime Minister's Official Dispatch No. 206/CD-TTg dated November 2 on focusing on quickly overcoming the consequences of floods in the Central region, including proactively directing and continuing to resolutely, promptly and effectively implement measures to overcome the consequences of natural disasters in the most urgent, drastic and effective spirit to quickly stabilize the people's situation.

Ministries, branches and localities must urgently approach isolated areas and those in need to promptly support people with food, drinking water, medicine and other essential necessities. No one must be left without food, clothing, hunger, cold, or water; sick people must have a place to take care of their health... quickly support people to repair damaged houses, rebuild collapsed or washed away houses, and support temporary accommodation for households that have lost their homes.

Along with that, support and guide people in flooded areas to clean their houses, clean the environment, disinfect, prevent and fight epidemics after floods; promptly overcome incidents, restore essential infrastructure, especially electricity, water, telecommunications waves, and traffic; provide maximum support for damage to production and business, guide people to restore production and business activities, especially agricultural, industrial, craft village, and service production... to soon stabilize people's lives....

The Minister of Agriculture and Environment continues to direct specialized units to support and directly guide localities in overcoming the consequences of natural disasters, repairing irrigation works, restoring agricultural production after floods; promptly handle and support agricultural materials, plant and animal varieties, chemicals to disinfect domestic water, treat the environment, prevent and control epidemics to restore agricultural production immediately after the floods recede...
