In early November, when cold air flows to the North, Tan Vien mountain range puts on a brilliant yellow coat.

On the road leading to Ba Vi National Park, patches of wild sunflowers are in full bloom, spreading out like a carpet of sunlight, making this place a meeting place for tourists who love photography and nature.

Wild sunflower - a flower also known as chrysanthemum or wild sunflower, blooms on time every year around late autumn and early winter.

In Ba Vi, this flower was brought back by the French to plant in the 1930s and 1940s, when they built a resort on the mountain. Nearly a century has passed, but wild sunflowers still grow naturally, covering many hillsides and ravines, creating a golden scene every time the first cold wind of the season comes.

The wild sunflower forest in Ba Vi National Park is about 10 hectares wide, located at an altitude of 400-700 m, divided into many small patches. Each wild sunflower has 12-13 petals, 8-10 cm in diameter, bright yellow color, and large round pistil.

As the morning sun rises, thousands of flowers turn towards the sun, shining honey-colored, standing out against the green background of pine forests and wild grass.

From Hanoi , it only takes more than an hour to travel, visitors can immerse themselves in the bright yellow "sea of flowers". On weekends, lines of cars line up the mountain from early morning. On the winding curves, groups of young people park their cars, posing next to the flower beds along the roadside.

Many groups bring small tables and coffee pots, choosing a corner under the flower canopy to admire the scenery and breathe the fresh air of the Ba Vi mountains. “Every year I invite my friends to Ba Vi to see wild sunflowers. This season the sky is clear, the flowers are blooming evenly, just lift the camera and you will have a beautiful photo. It feels like being lost in the highlands in the heart of the North,” said Mai Huong, 28 years old, a tourist from Ha Dong.

Mr. Nguyen Van Thai, a resident of Tan Linh commune, said: “The flowers bloomed a little earlier this year, probably because of less rain. Every season, visitors flock here in large numbers, sometimes up to a thousand people. People are also happy because everyone is conscious of preserving the flowers, not picking them, not littering like before.”

To get to the main flower forest, visitors buy tickets to the National Park, then go about 200 m to an altitude of 400, turn left and walk about 300 m.

The deeper you go, the more flowers bloom, creating a brilliant path under the sunlight. This is also the spot chosen by many photographers to "hunt" for early winter frames.

The best time to see the flowers is from 7am to 9am or after 3pm, when the sunlight is gentle, the flowers are vibrant and the air is cool. The wild sunflower season lasts until the end of November, depending on the weather each year.
