(NLDO) - Out of 3,355 classrooms and functional rooms in 22 districts and counties in Ho Chi Minh City, only 18% of schools meet noise standards.
On December 17th, the Ho Chi Minh City Center for Disease Control (HCDC) released its report on classroom hygiene and hand hygiene monitoring for 2024, which highlighted several issues related to the school environment.
From September 23rd to November 27th, the Ho Chi Minh City Center for Disease Control (HCDC) conducted monitoring at 95 schools, surveying a total of 3,355 classrooms and functional rooms in 22 districts and counties across the city. The results showed that only 27 out of 95 schools (28%) met the lighting requirements, with a light level of ≥ 300 lux.
Regarding noise levels, only 17 schools (18%) met the standard, i.e., ≤ 55 dBA. Schools located near traffic routes or areas with frequent exercise often experience noise levels exceeding the permissible limit.
Regarding CO2 concentration, only 27 schools (28%) met the requirement for this gas concentration (≤ 0.1%). Many schools use air conditioners but lack exhaust fans, causing CO2 concentrations to rise above safe levels for students and teachers.
In addition to monitoring the learning environment, HCDC also conducted surveys on hand hygiene in educational institutions. The results showed that 100% of schools had handwashing areas, 91% met a reasonable student-to-handwashing ratio, 100% provided clean water in these areas, 98% equipped soap or disinfectant solutions, and 99% had handwashing instruction signs.
Regarding students' knowledge, 98% of students have been informed about proper handwashing; 97% of students believe that frequent handwashing with soap is very important for health protection; and 91% of students agree that this habit should be formed from a young age.
